Synthesis, insecticidal activities and DFT study of pyrimidin-4-amine derivatives containing the 1,2,4-oxadiazole motif

Yong-Hui Wen et al.

Summary: Twenty six novel pyrimidin-4-amine derivatives containing the 1,2,4-oxadiazole motif were synthesized and their chemical structures were confirmed. Some of these compounds showed excellent insecticidal activity against Mythimna separate, but were inactive against Aphis medicagini and Tetranychus cinnabarinus. The study discussed the structure-insecticidal activity relationships and suggested the potential use of density functional theory analysis for designing more active compounds. These findings provide valuable information for further optimization of insecticides.

Multi-centre discriminating concentration determination of broflanilide and potential for cross-resistance to other public health insecticides in Anopheles vector populations

Natalie M. Portwood et al.

Summary: This study expanded upon the testing of broflanilide's discriminating concentration and found it to be effective as an indoor residual spraying product against pyrethroid-resistant vector populations. The study also investigated the potential for cross-resistance to broflanilide via a specific mutation, but no cross-resistance was observed. These findings provide important insights for ongoing community trials of broflanilide in Tanzania and Benin.

High frequency of ryanodine receptor and cytochrome P450 CYP9A186 mutations in insecticide-resistant field populations of Spodoptera exigua from China

Haiyuan Teng et al.

Summary: The beet armyworm, a global agricultural pest, has developed resistance to insecticides such as chlorantraniliprole and emamectin benzoate. Mutations in specific genes, such as SeRyR and CYP9A186, have been found to contribute to resistance. However, the resistance mechanisms may vary for different insecticides. Therefore, the use of insecticides with different modes of action and other integrated pest management strategies are necessary to effectively control the beet armyworm in China.

The mode of action of isocycloseram: A novel isoxazoline insecticide

Judith Blythe et al.

Summary: Isocycloseram is a novel isoxazoline insecticide and acaricide that targets the invertebrate Rdl GABA receptor. It has shown activity against various pest species and is not affected by the widely distributed cyclodiene resistance mutation. Binding sites relevant to its insecticidal activity are distinct from avermectins. In addition, specific mutations in the Rdl GABA receptor impair its ability to block the GABA mediated response, indicating its unique mode of action.
