Evaluation of the elastic modulus of concrete based on indentation test and multi-scale homogenization method

Yue Li et al.

Summary: This paper quantitatively evaluates the elastic modulus of concrete through microscopic tests and a multiscale mechanical homogenization method considering interface transition zone (ITZ). The results show that the incorporation of silica fume increases the elastic modulus and volume proportion of the C-S-H gel, improves the ITZ elastic modulus, and reduces its thickness. The essential role of ITZ in the elastic deformation analysis of concrete is confirmed through analyzing the effects of nanoscopic phases, microscopic phases, and ITZ properties.

A Simple yet Accurate Homogenization Method for Early Age Cement Pastes

Tuan Nguyen-Sy et al.

Summary: A simple and accurate method has been developed to model the effective elastic properties of early age cement pastes, allowing for accurate prediction of the hydration degree. By predicting the hydration degree through the acquisition of ultrasonic velocity, the simulated results have been validated against a large variety of experimental data, showing great potential for practical applications.
