Opt-out policy and its improvements promote COVID-19 vaccinations

Summary: Using default nudges, this study examines the effects of opt-out policy and its improvements on vaccination intention and attitude, as well as the differences across risk-perception groups. The results show that opt-out policy and its improvements increase intentions to be vaccinated, with the exception of opt-out transparency. Additionally, risk perception does not seem to vary as a function of defaults.

Summary: The findings of this study suggest that state-issued COVID-19 vaccine mandates may have encouraged state populations to seek vaccinations, even if the population was not specifically required to do so under the order. This cross-sectional study provides important insights into the association between vaccine mandates and vaccination rates.
