Explosive boiling of suspended argon films in the cassie-baxter state on nanopillar-arrayed surfaces

Ben-Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: The explosive boiling of a Cassie-Baxter (CB) state argon film suspended on nanopillar-arrayed surfaces is systematically studied through molecular dynamics simulations. The onset time of explosive boiling increases with the thickness of the suspended liquid film due to the delayed local accumulation of energy. Although the hydraulic diameter decreases with increased nanopillar height, the onset time remains unchanged. This is because liquid argon atoms cannot infiltrate into nanogrooves, maintaining a constant area for heat transfer.

Improving boiling heat transfer with hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterned flat surface: A molecular dynamics study

Wei Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates six biphilic surfaces with different hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterns using molecular dynamics, and observes individual bubble behavior on biphilic surfaces for the first time. Results show that bubble dynamics differ at different wall temperatures, and the shape and volume of bubble can be controlled by designing the hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterns. The study also reveals that temperature and density differences above biphilic surfaces promote horizontal heat and mass transfer, facilitating bubble nucleation. Additionally, different pattern designs have varying effects on heat transfer performance.

Self-pumping ultra-thin film evaporation on CNT-embedded silicon nitride nanopore membrane

Runkeng Liu et al.

Summary: This study elucidated the characteristics of ultra-thin water film evaporation through simulation, revealing the phenomenon of self-pumping water transport through nanopores induced by the driving force of the evaporation meniscus. Additionally, it was demonstrated that coating the nanopores with hydrophobic carbon nanotubes (CNT) is a feasible strategy to reduce water loss through evaporation and increase evaporation flux.

Temperature-Dependent Electro-osmotic Flow Reversal in a Nanotube with High Surface Charge Density

Zhenyu Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the electro-osmotic flow (EOF) of a potassium chloride (KCl) solution in a carbon nanotube (CNT) at different temperatures, revealing a non-monotonic relationship between temperature and the degree of charge inversion. Below 300K, the ion velocity and degree of charge inversion increase with temperature before decreasing significantly. The combined influence of viscosity, ion velocity, degree of charge inversion, and ionic hydration capacity results in a slowing down of the rate of increase in reverse EOF velocity with increasing temperature.

Bubble nucleation on grooved surfaces with hybrid wettability: Molecular dynamics study under a transient temperature boundary condition

Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: The mechanisms of bubble nucleation on surfaces with different wettability were investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. It was found that the bubble growth rate is faster on hydrophilic surfaces and surfaces with patterned wettability promote bubble nucleation. Additionally, an enhancement of maximum heat flux was observed on specific hybrid wettability surfaces.

Cheng Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of different surface structures on the heat transfer efficiency of argon vapor film was simulated using molecular dynamics method. The results showed that the heat transfer efficiency of alternating hydrophobic surface structures is lower compared to pure hydrophilic surface, while the heat transfer efficiency of alternating hydrophilic surface structures is superior.

Molecular dynamics simulation of the roles of roughness ratio and surface potential energy in explosive boiling

Pu Bai et al.

Summary: This research investigates the effect of surface roughness on explosive boiling and heat transfer in water film over copper surfaces with nanochannels. It is found that increasing channel height can promote boiling onset time, increase temperature and heat flux, and reduce interfacial thermal resistance. However, increasing roughness ratio by reducing channel spacing has both promotion and weakening effects on heat transfer. The study also proposes a critical channel spacing for enhancing heat transfer by increasing surface potential energy.
