A novel IBAS-ELM model for prediction of water levels in front of pumping stations

Peiru Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, an improved beetle antennae search-extreme learning machine (IBAS-ELM) water level prediction model is proposed to accurately predict the water levels in front of pumping stations in open-channel water transfer projects. The model combines the improved beetle antennae search (IBAS) algorithm with extreme learning machine (ELM). Results show that the IBAS-ELM model has higher prediction accuracy compared to other models, with lower MAE, RMSE, and MAPE values and higher NSE values. The model can provide support for the operation of water transfer projects.

Predictions of Reynolds and Nusselt numbers in turbulent convection using machine-learning models

Shashwat Bhattacharya et al.

Summary: A multivariate regression model and a neural network model were developed in this paper to predict the Reynolds number and Nusselt number in turbulent thermal convection. By comparing with earlier models, it was found that the machine-learning models in this work provided the best match with the experimental and numerical results.

Experimental study on entropic behavior of smooth pipe due to the simultaneous usage of spring turbulator and air bubble injection

Xinchun Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the heat transfer enhancement in smooth tubes using both active and passive methods, i.e., air bubble injection and spring wire turbulator. The results show that reducing the induced rotational flow by adjusting the turbulator's pitch can affect the two-phase flow and significantly change the flow pattern. Air bubble injection increases the Nusselt number and exergy destruction.

Estimation of pyrolysis liquid product yield and its hydrogen content for biomass resources by combined evaluation of pyrolysis conditions with proximate-ultimate analysis data: A machine learning application

Seyda Tasar

Summary: In this study, various theoretical models were applied using machine learning, and it was found that the random forest model had higher success rates in predicting the yield and hydrogen content of biomass pyrolysis liquid products. It was also observed that biomass composition had a greater impact on the liquid product yield and hydrogen content than pyrolysis conditions.

Performance optimization of heat-exchanger with delta-wing tape inserts using machine learning

Muhammed Zafar Ali Khan et al.

Summary: This study proposes and develops a machine learning-based approach for predicting the heat transfer performance of a heat exchanger that employs delta-wing tape inserts. By building an artificial neural network (ANN) model and training it with a large dataset, the parameters Nu, f, and eta are successfully predicted. The results show that the proposed method can accurately predict the heat transfer characteristics and provide valuable guidance for practical applications.

Numerical analysis of wire coil inserted corrugated tube for laminar flow

Sanjay Kadam et al.

Summary: Laminar flow refers to the organized flow of fluid particles along a specific path. Heat transfer performance is lower in laminar flow for heat exchange devices. Providing corrugation on the heat exchange surface is a technique for enhancing heat transfer. The current research focuses on numerical analysis of thermal hydraulic performance for pipes with coil-wire inserts, and finds that a wire coil diameter of 0.5 mm provides the best thermo-hydraulic performance.

Machine learning algorithms for improving the prediction of air injection effect on the thermohydraulic performance of shell and tube heat exchanger

Emad M. S. El-Said et al.

Summary: Improved prediction methods based on supervised machine-learning algorithms were proposed in this study to predict the effect of air injection and transverse baffles on the thermohydraulic performance of shell and tube heat exchangers. Experimental data was used to train and test four different machine-learning algorithms, with the random vector functional link model demonstrating superior prediction capabilities compared to the other models in terms of outlet temperature and pressure drop values. The root mean square error and mean relative error for RVFL results were significantly lower than SMO, SVM, or KNN.

Mohammed Zafar Ali Khan et al.

Summary: The study uses artificial neural networks to predict the efficiency of a double-pipe heat exchanger, showing that the model can accurately predict experimental data with a low mean square error. The neural network method is also effective in predicting thermal parameters with low variability and high precision.
