Sample sizes for saturation in qualitative research: A systematic review of empirical tests

Monique Hennink et al.

Summary: This review explores empirical studies on saturation in qualitative research to determine sample sizes and assessment strategies. The findings suggest that commonly used qualitative research methods typically require a small number of interviews or focus group discussions to reach saturation, although these results may only apply to studies with homogenous populations and clearly defined objectives.

Global, regional, and national burden of stroke and its risk factors, 1990-2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Valery L. Feigin et al.

Summary: Regularly updated data on stroke including incidence, prevalence, mortality, disability, risk factors, and trends are crucial for evidence-based care planning. The Global Burden of Diseases Study provides comprehensive measurement of these metrics. From 1990 to 2019, while age-standardized rates improved, the number of strokes and deaths increased. Low-income countries had the highest stroke-related mortality and DALY rates, with high body-mass index being the fastest-growing risk factor.

Trends in ischemic stroke outcomes in a rural population in the United States

Durgesh Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The study found that while the all-cause mortality rate has decreased in ischemic stroke patients from rural areas in the United States, the stroke recurrence rate has significantly increased. Factors independently associated with mortality include older age, atrial fibrillation or flutter, heart failure, and prior ischemic stroke, while diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and age less than 65 years were predictors of ischemic stroke recurrence.
