Experimental and numerical characterization of twisting response of thin glass

Laura Galuppi et al.

Summary: The use of new generation thin, lightweight and damage-resistant glass is being explored in the built environment for adaptive and movable skins and facades. However, the experimental characterization of this type of glass poses challenges due to geometrical nonlinearities. This study proposes an innovative test procedure and designs a dedicated apparatus to test different specimens.

Experimental investigations and numerical simulations of innovative lightweight glass-plastic-composite panels made of thin glass and PMMA

Julian Haenig et al.

Summary: Composites, combining lightweight polymer interlayer core and thin glass cover layers, show potential for high load-bearing performance in lightweight glass structures for the building industry. However, there is a lack of precise material properties for the modified PMMA interlayer core and the behavior of thermoplastic polymers over time. Further research and developments are needed to fully utilize the advantages of composite panels in structural applications.

A curvilinear isogeometric framework for the electromechanical activation of thin muscular tissues

Alessandro Nitti et al.

Summary: This study introduces an isogeometric approximation method for modeling the propagation of electrophysiological stimuli in cardiac tissue and subsequent muscle contraction. By solving reaction-diffusion equations on a three-dimensional surface and utilizing high-order NURBS basis functions, complex excitation patterns can be reproduced with limited degrees of freedom. The method also offers a flexible and easy-to-implement approach for general surfaces.
