Gangqiang Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, nonsubstrate allosteric inhibitors of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) were designed and synthesized. A potential nonsubstrate inhibitor (7a) was found to bind to the allosteric site of Pgp with high affinity and inhibit its ATPase activity. It also interfered with Pgp-mediated efflux and enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of paclitaxel in vivo.

Acss2/HIF-2 signaling facilitates colon cancer growth and metastasis

Joseph A. Garcia et al.

Summary: The microenvironment of solid tumors is characterized by oxygen and glucose deprivation. Acss2/HIF-2 signaling plays a crucial role in colon cancer, as it is activated by oxygen or glucose deprivation and promotes colony formation, migration, and invasion. Exogenous acetate supplementation enhances the growth of colon cancer-derived tumors in mice in an Acss2/HIF-2 dependent manner. Targeted inhibition of Acss2/HIF-2 signaling may have synergistic effects for some colon cancer patients.

More reactive oxygen species generation facilitated by highly dispersed bimodal gold nanoparticle on the surface of Bi2WO6 for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of ofloxacin in water

Yayang Tian et al.

Summary: The Bi2WO6/Au-400 degrees C catalyst, with a bimodal distribution of small size clusters and large nanoparticles, showed a significantly enhanced catalytic activity in degrading OFX under visible light irradiation. This enhancement was attributed to the additional ROS production initiated by photoinduced electron transfer between small Au clusters and large Au NPs. Moreover, the catalyst demonstrated good stability after repeated cycling tests and a relatively low total cost, making it a promising alternative for practical environmental remediation through photocatalysis.
