Planar shear flow effects on particle dispersion over a normal flat plate

Harshal P. Mahamure et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of planar shear inflow on the dispersion and deposition of inertial particles in the unsteady laminar wake behind a normal flat plate. The results show that planar shear alters the shedding pattern of vortices, leading to significant streamwise stretching and rotation of particle-depleted void regions and adjacent clusters. Additionally, shear-induced changes in particle distribution patterns and lateral shifts in the positions of particle clusters are observed. The concentration of medium Stokes number particles is significantly increased near the wake centerline, while local peaks in particle concentration profiles and minima in particle velocity profiles shift laterally due to shear. The shear also causes a slight reduction in particle deposition efficiency.

Numerical simulation of the flow around two square cylinders using the lattice Boltzmann method

Yi Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents a numerical investigation on flow around two square cylinders in different arrangements, revealing various flow patterns that can be categorized into three types depending on the spacing between the cylinders. The dependence of flow parameters on spacing is demonstrated, and the relationship between flow pattern and lift and drag coefficients is explored.

Clusters and coherent voids in particle-laden wake flow

Zhaoyu Shi et al.

Summary: In this study, inertial point particles suspended in a two-dimensional unsteady circular cylinder flow at Re = 100 were investigated through one-way coupled three-dimensional numerical simulations. The clustering of particles in the near-wake was found to be correlated with the periodically shed Karman vortex cells. As particle inertia increased, smooth edges around the void holes persisted but formation was delayed, leading to a decoupling of particle acceleration from slip velocity.
