Functionality of dietary antimicrobial peptides in aquatic animal health: Multiple meta-analyses

Jinhai Wang et al.

Summary: The effects of adding antimicrobial peptides (AMP) to diets on aquatic animal health and body function are influenced by various factors. Meta-analysis of multiple studies showed that AMP inclusion in the diet significantly improved growth performance, enzyme activity, disease resistance, and gut microbiota abundance for aquatic animals. Optimal AMP doses for different aspects of body functions were determined, and the results suggested that fish with an initial body weight of 30 g could be fed with a specific dose for 2 months to improve body function and health while reducing aquafeed costs. Future research should focus on the influence of dietary AMP on fish gut microbiota.
