Overexpression of ZmDHN15 Enhances Cold Tolerance in Yeast and Arabidopsis

Nannan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, five maize DHN genes were screened and analyzed. The promoter region of these genes contains many cis-acting elements related to cold stress. The overexpression of ZmDHN15 gene improved the cold resistance in yeast and Arabidopsis, indicating the important role of ZmDHN15 gene in cold stress tolerance. This study is significant for maize germplasm innovation and crop genetic improvement.

Genome-wide identification and characterization of members of the LEA gene family in Panax notoginseng and their transcriptional responses to dehydration of recalcitrant seeds

Jin-Shan Jia et al.

Summary: A genome-wide analysis of the LEA gene family in Panax notoginseng seeds reveals the presence of 61 LEA genes, with the LEA_6 subfamily being absent and the LEA_2 subfamily expanded. The results suggest that LEA proteins play a crucial role in the response to dehydration stress in P. notoginseng seeds, but their protective effect is not efficient.

Late embryogenesis abundant gene LEA3 (Gh_A08G0694) enhances drought and salt stress tolerance in cotton

Margaret L. Shiraku et al.

Summary: This study investigates the functional characteristics of the late embryogenesis abundant protein gene in cotton and its relationship with abiotic stress. The results show that knocking out the key gene increases the sensitivity of cotton to salt and drought stresses, while overexpression of the gene enhances the tolerance of cotton to these stresses.

Characterization of a Novel TtLEA2 Gene From Tritipyrum and Its Transformation in Wheat to Enhance Salt Tolerance

Zhifen Yang et al.

Summary: The Y1805-specific LEA gene, TtLEA2-1, was identified and found to be highly and sensitively expressed under salt stress. It showed sequence identity with Thinopyrum elongatum and was mainly expressed in the roots. Interaction analysis revealed 48 candidate proteins that interact with TtLEA2-1, mainly involved in environmental information processing and metabolism. Overexpression of TaLEA2-1 in wheat increased salt tolerance.

Genome-wide association analysis reveals seed protein loci as determinants of variations in grain mold resistance in sorghum

Habte Nida et al.

Summary: GWAS analysis identified variations at loci related to seed storage protein, late embryogenesis abundant protein, and a tannin biosynthesis gene associated with sorghum grain mold resistance. Additionally, significant factors in resistance were also found in non-pigmented grain accessions. Detection of new loci and their mechanisms of resistance provide fresh insight into genetic control of the trait, while highly resistant accessions can be used as sources of resistance genes for breeding programs.

Functional Characteristics Analysis of Dehydrins in Larix kaempferi under Osmotic Stress

Xuechun Wang et al.

Summary: The study identified four dehydrins in Larix kaempferi that enhance plant tolerance to abiotic stress by binding DNA in the nucleus and cytoplasm, ultimately helping plants survive from heavy stress. These dehydrins played similar roles in the response to osmotic stress and assisted in the adaptation of L. kaempferi to the arid and cold winter of northern China.

Plant Group II LEA Proteins: Intrinsically Disordered Structure for Multiple Functions in Response to Environmental Stresses

Mughair Abdul Aziz et al.

Summary: Plants have evolved defense mechanisms in response to environmental stresses, including overexpressing stress-responsive genes, among them genes encoding intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) like group II LEA proteins. These proteins play vital roles in protecting plant integrity by preventing crystallization of cellular components prior to various stresses, with studies on their distribution, structure, and genomic diversification providing insights into their role in plant stress tolerance mechanisms.
