Global burden of colorectal cancer in 2020 and 2040: incidence and mortality estimates from GLOBOCAN

Eileen Morgan et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, with the highest incidence rates in Australia/New Zealand and Europe, and the lowest rates in Africa and Southern Asia. The burden of colorectal cancer is projected to increase by 2040, with the majority of cases predicted to occur in high HDI countries.

Overcoming EGFR Resistance in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Using Vitamin C: A Review

Ahmad Machmouchi et al.

Summary: Targeted monoclonal antibody therapy against EGFR is a leading treatment for mCRC. However, resistance due to KRAS and BRAF mutations has emerged. Cells with these mutations overexpress GLUT1 and SVCT2, leading to intracellular vitamin C transport and cell death. High dose vitamin C shows promise in overcoming EGFR resistance in mCRC with wild KRAS mutation and in patients with KRAS and BRAF mutations, but more clinical trials are needed.

miR-221/222 as biomarkers and targets for therapeutic intervention on cancer and other diseases: A systematic review

Maria Teresa Di Martino et al.

Summary: Among deregulated microRNAs, miR-221 has been extensively studied for its oncogenic role in human malignancies and its involvement in chronic liver injury and inflammation. Silencing of miR-221 shows promise as a therapeutic intervention. This systematic review demonstrates the importance of miR-221 as a valuable therapeutic target in molecular medicine.

CirRNA F-circEA-2a Suppresses the Role of miR-3613-3p in Colorectal Cancer by Direct Sponging and Predicts Poor Survival

Fu Xiang et al.

Summary: CircEA-2a is overexpressed in CRC, while miR-3613-3p is under-expressed. F-circEA-2a may suppress the role of miR-3613-3p in CRC by direct sponging.

EGFR-Based Targeted Therapy for Colorectal Cancer-Promises and Challenges

Balakarthikeyan Janani et al.

Summary: Colorectal carcinoma is a common and lethal form of cancer, with a high rate of metastasis. Targeted nanotherapy, particularly targeting EGFR, has the potential to improve surgical control and reduce tumor-related mortality. Antibodies conjugated with drug-loaded carriers can increase drug effectiveness and quantity delivered to the target site.

Heteronemin and Tetrac Induce Anti-Proliferation by Blocking EGFR-Mediated Signaling in Colorectal Cancer Cells

Sukanya Unson et al.

Summary: Heteronemin induces anti-proliferation in colorectal cancer cells by blocking the EGFR-dependent signal transduction pathway, and combined treatment with tetrac enhances the anti-proliferative effect via PD-L1 suppression.

Tomasz Sawicki et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, with increasing incidence and mortality rates each year. Genetic and environmental factors, as well as lifestyle choices, play a significant role in its development. Studying the epidemiology and diagnosis of colorectal cancer is crucial for informing future strategies in disease prevention and control.

N6-methyladenosine-induced circ1662 promotes metastasis of colorectal cancer by accelerating YAP1 nuclear localization

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: A novel circRNA, circ1662, was found to be highly expressed in CRC tissues and correlated with poor prognosis and tumor depth. Functionally, circ1662 promoted CRC cell invasion and migration by controlling EMT and accelerating YAP1 nuclear accumulation to regulate the SMAD3 pathway.METTL3 induced circ1662 expression and played a role in CRC metastasis.

MicroRNA-3613-3p functions as a tumor suppressor and represents a novel therapeutic target in breast cancer

Chong Chen et al.

Summary: Our study identified a frequent deletion of MIR3613 in the breast cancer genome, which was correlated with molecular subtypes and poor prognosis in estrogen receptor-positive patients. MiR-3613-3p levels were significantly lower in tumor tissues or serum of breast cancer patients. Functional studies showed that miR-3613-3p could inhibit proliferation, promote apoptosis, and suppress tumor growth and metastasis. Additionally, miR-3613-3p may regulate the cell cycle by targeting SMS, PAFAH1B2, or PDK3 to restrain tumor progression, indicating a potential marker or treatment for breast cancer patients.
