The key role of indole-3-acetic acid biosynthesis by Bacillus thuringiensis RZ2MS9 in promoting maize growth revealed by the ipdC gene knockout mediated by the CRISPR-Cas9 system

Everthon Fernandes Figueredo et al.

Summary: The Bacillus strain RZ2MS9, belonging to PGPR, has been shown to promote maize growth through the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). A gene knockout study using the CRISPR-Cas9 system revealed that the ipdC gene plays a significant role in IAA biosynthesis by RZ2MS9. Inactivation of the ipdC gene resulted in decreased IAA synthesis and reduced ability to colonize maize, leading to poor growth promotion.

Effects of surfactins, Bacillus lipopeptides, on the behavior of an aphid and host selection by its parasitoid

Thomas Denoirjean et al.

Summary: The study found that the concentration of surfactins affects the mortality of aphids, with 1 g/L of surfactins causing increased locomotor activity and reduced feeding activity in aphids. However, exposure to surfactins did not show significant effects on the host selection behavior of parasitoid wasps.

Compatibility and synergistic interactions of fungi, Metarhizium anisopliae, and insecticide combinations against the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

Ahmad Nawaz et al.

Summary: This study found that the combination of certain insecticides with the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae was more effective in controlling the cotton aphid than individual treatments. The toxicity of the insecticides was consistent with their compatibility with the fungus, with the combination of flonicamid and M. anisopliae showing the highest mortality rate.

Biological control of fall webworm larva (Hyphantria cunea Drury) and growth promotion of poplar seedlings (Populus x canadensis Moench) with Bacillus licheniformis PR2

Jae-Hyun Moon et al.

Summary: This study investigates the larvicidal potential of enzymes secreted by Bacillus licheniformis PR2 and the growth promotion effect of plant growth hormones on Hyphantria cunea larvae and Populus x canadensis Moench seedlings. The results show that B. licheniformis PR2 has larvicidal effects on H. cunea larvae and promotes seedling growth.

Effects of planting of two common crops, Allium fistulosum and Brassica napus, on soil properties and microbial communities of ginseng cultivation in northeast China

Xingbo Bian et al.

Summary: The cultivation of Allium fistulosum and Brassica napus on ginseng soil significantly improved the levels of available phosphorus and potassium, with Allium fistulosum possibly reducing soil salinity. The activities of key soil enzymes were differentially affected by the two crops, and changes in the microbial communities were closely related to soil chemistry and enzyme activity. Both crops significantly reduced the abundance of the pathogenic fungus Ilyonectria, suggesting their potential in sustainable ginseng cultivation.

Molecular Aspects of Plant Growth Promotion and Protection by Bacillus subtilis

Christopher Blake et al.

Summary: Bacillus subtilis is a widely studied plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria, with the ability to promote plant growth and control plant pathogens through various mechanisms. Despite extensive recognition and study of its benefits in crop production under laboratory conditions, the success of its application in fields varies greatly due to the inability of the bacteria to persist in the rhizosphere. Successful root colonization is crucial for the interaction between microbe and plant, highlighting the importance of bacterial traits and signaling interplay with the plant for growth promotion and biocontrol effects.

Vantha Choub et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Bacillus velezensis CE 100 is an effective biocontrol agent against walnut anthracnose disease and has the potential to promote plant growth in walnut tree production. By reducing the severity of anthracnose disease and enhancing walnut growth through field inoculation, this strain showed promising results in improving nutrient uptake and biomass production.

Comparative selectivity of nano and commercial formulations of pirimicarb on a target pest, Brevicoryne brassicae, and its predator Chrysoperla carnea

Nariman Maroofpour et al.

Summary: Nanopesticides, a new field in the pesticide industry, offer benefits such as increased efficacy and reduced usage of active ingredients, but lack of toxicity studies hinders their widespread use. Encapsulating insecticide in nanostructured carriers enhanced its toxicity to aphids, while negatively affecting the growth of aphid populations and natural enemies. Further research is needed to assess the environmental impact of nanopesticides.
