Calmodulin as a Key Regulator of Exosomal Signal Peptides

Kenji Ono et al.

Summary: Signal peptides (SPs) and their fragments have important roles as biomarkers and substances with physiological functions in extracellular fluid. In this study, the binding of calmodulin (CaM) to SP fragments was examined in various cells and their exosomes. CaM was found to function as a key regulator of the transport of SP fragments into exosomes and played novel roles in the sorting of contents during exosomal biogenesis.

Signal Sequence-Dependent Orientation of Signal Peptide Fragments to Exosomes

Kenji Ono et al.

Summary: Signal peptides play important roles as biomarkers and substances with physiological activity in extracellular fluids. Recent studies have shown that signal peptide fragments are secreted into the extracellular fluid via exosomes, and the transportation of these fragments from the endoplasmic reticulum to exosomes may involve calmodulin.

Biodistribution of extracellular vesicles following administration into animals: A systematic review

Matthew Kang et al.

Summary: The biodistribution of EVs in recipient animals is time-dependent, with small-EVs mostly abundant in the liver and large-EVs primarily present in the lungs. Detection peaked in the liver and kidneys within the first hour, while distribution to the lungs and spleen peaked between 2-12 hours. Standardized guidelines are recommended to reduce variability in methodology in future EV biodistribution studies.
