Characterization, expression and functional analysis of CYP306a1 in the oriental river prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense

Fangyan Pan et al.

Summary: The Mn-CYP306a1 gene plays an important role in promoting the synthesis of 20E in Macrobrachium nipponense. It is highly expressed in the reproductive tissues and shows a wave-like expression pattern during embryonic and metamorphic development. RNAi experiments show that inhibiting the expression of this gene can reduce 20E content and molting frequency in M. nipponense, and negatively affect body weight.

Transcriptome analysis provides novel insights into the immune mechanisms of Macrobrachium nipponense during molting

Huwei Yuan et al.

Summary: This study used mRNA sequencing to detect the gene expression levels of the Oriental river prawn at different molting stages. Significant differences in gene expression were observed between different molting stages, with a number of immune-related pathways being enriched. The results were validated using qRT-PCR and the function of the CASP1 gene was investigated.

RNA interference shows that Spook, the precursor gene of 20-hydroxyec-dysone (20E), regulates the molting of Macrobrachium nipponense

Huwei Yuan et al.

Summary: The Mn-Spook gene, found in the Oriental river prawn, plays an important role in ovarian and gill tissue during breeding, with high expression during various developmental stages. Through RNA interference, it was demonstrated that Mn-Spook gene is crucial for molting process of the Oriental river prawn.

Control of the insect metamorphic transition by ecdysteroid production and secretion

Xueyang Pan et al.

Summary: Ecdysteroids, a type of steroid hormones, regulate molting and metamorphosis in insects, being produced in the prothoracic gland through reduction-oxidation reactions from dietary sterols. The prothoracic gland acts as a central node integrating signals to control ecdysteroid biosynthesis and secretion, ensuring precise pulses of these hormones during metamorphosis. Recent research has focused on characterizing ecdysone biosynthesis, steroid trafficking pathways, and identifying new factors that regulate prothoracic gland function.

Dynamic transcriptome analysis and Methoprene-tolerant gene knockdown reveal that juvenile hormone regulates oogenesis and vitellogenin synthesis in Propylea Japonica

Ningbo HuangFu et al.

Summary: Propylea japonica, known as one of the most remarkable natural enemies against aphids in China, has unclear mechanism of juvenile hormone (JH) regulation of reproduction. Transcriptome analysis in this study revealed a significant differential expression of genes related to JH synthesis, metabolism, and nutrient signal sensing and transduction during P. japonica development. Silencing of the Met gene significantly inhibited ovarian maturation, vitellogenesis, and follicular epithelium development in female adults.

Signaling Pathways That Regulate the Crustacean Molting Gland

Donald L. Mykles

Summary: Y-organs are the molting glands of decapod crustaceans, controlled by external and internal signals through four physiological states. The YO transcriptome reveals the involvement of various signaling pathways and receptors in molt control, suggesting positive regulation by insulin-like peptides and growth factors. Future research should focus on integrating physiological status with environmental cues for molt control.

Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3 Gene Is Important in Growth and Molting of the Pacific White Shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei

Ying Pang et al.

Summary: Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3) is a highly conserved serine/threonine protein kinase that plays important roles in insulin, Wnt, and various signaling pathways. In this study, a GSK3 gene was identified in the Pacific white shrimp genome and found to be highly expressed in different developmental stages and premolting stages. Knockdown of LvGSK3 led to retarded body weight growth and altered expression of molting-related genes, highlighting its potential applications in shrimp growth.
