Measurement of 7-dehydrocholesterol and cholesterol in hair can be used in the diagnosis of Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome

Yitao Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using hair as a diagnostic tool for Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLOS). By optimizing the analytical method, 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) and cholesterol (CHOL) in hair samples could be simultaneously determined. The method showed high sensitivity and a linear range that meets the requirements for SLOS diagnosis and related research.

Human Placental Intracellular Cholesterol Transport: A Focus on Lysosomal and Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Oxidative Stress

Maria Jose Yanez et al.

Summary: The placenta plays a crucial role in cholesterol biosynthesis, metabolism, and exchange between the maternal and fetal compartments. The mechanisms of cholesterol uptake and intracellular traffic in placental cells are not fully understood. Proteins such as LDLR, SR-BI, ABCA1, and ABCG1 are involved in the transport of cholesterol. The role of proteins related to intracellular cholesterol traffic in placental cells during normal and pathological pregnancies is still largely unknown. Oxidative stress induced by ROS has been implicated in lysosomal and mitochondrial dysfunction in hypercholesterolemic pregnancies.

Effect of Lipid Raft Disruptors on Cell Membrane Fluidity Studied by Fluorescence Spectroscopy

Adam Horvath et al.

Summary: Lipid rafts are specialized microdomains in cell membranes that play an integrative role in various physiological and pathophysiological processes. This study investigates the effect of different compounds on the disruption of rafts and the alteration of membrane fluidity.

Rationale and design of ApoA-I Event Reducing in Ischemic Syndromes II (AEGIS-II): A phase 3, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study to investigate the efficacy and safety of CSL112 in subjects after acute myocardial infarction

C. Michael Gibson et al.

Summary: AEGIS-II is a Phase 3 trial investigating the efficacy and safety of CSL112 compared to placebo among high-risk acute MI participants, aiming to determine whether enhancing cholesterol efflux can reduce the rate of recurrent major adverse cardiovascular events. This study will be the first to formally test this hypothesis.
