Revealing the Mechanisms for Linalool Antifungal Activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Its Efficient Control of Fusarium Wilt in Tomato Plants

Xiuming Li et al.

Summary: Linalool, a natural plant volatile compound, has been found to inhibit the growth of Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR) in tomatoes caused by the phytopathogenic fungus Forl. It damages the integrity of cell membranes, reduces antioxidant enzyme activity, and downregulates metabolic biosynthetic pathways and pathogenic gene expression in Forl. Additionally, linalool activates defensive pathways and improves disease resistance in tomatoes.

Application and Development of Bt Insect Resistance Genes in Rice Breeding

Changyan Li et al.

Summary: Pest control is crucial for preventing reductions in crop yields, and biological control and genetically modified methods are considered more reasonable strategies. After years of experiments and research, Bt transgenic rice is close to becoming a commercial insect-resistant rice, with pronounced abilities in controlling pests and no obvious safety differences from non-transgenic rice. Therefore, transgenic Bt rice has application potential and commercial value.

Reconstitution of the Flavor Signature of Laobaigan-Type Baijiu Based on the Natural Concentrations of Its Odor-Active Compounds and Nonvolatile Organic Acids

Guangnan Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the nonvolatile organic acids (NVOAs) and odorants associated with the Laobaigan flavor type of Baijiu. It was found for the first time that NVOAs have effects on the volatiles in Baijiu, influencing the overall flavor and intensity of certain aroma qualities. The reconstitution of odor-active volatiles and NVOAs showed a closer similarity to the original Baijiu sample compared to samples containing only odor-active volatiles, with alcoholic and sweety flavors reduced and other flavors amplified.

The main component of the aphid alarm pheromone (E)-β-farnesene affects the growth and development of Spodoptera exigua by mediating juvenile hormone-related genes

Yang Sun et al.

Summary: The results of this study showed that high concentrations of E β F had a direct inhibitory effect on Spodoptera exigua, reducing larval survival rate and per female fecundity of adults, and inhibiting population growth. Furthermore, E β F disrupted the normal function of juvenile hormones in larvae and regulated the expression of genes and proteins related to female fecundity in adult females.

Herbivore-induced DMNT catalyzed by CYP82D47 plays an important role in the induction of JA-dependent herbivore resistance of neighboring tea plants

Tingting Jing et al.

Summary: Herbivore-induced plant volatiles can trigger plant resistance in neighboring plants by inducing jasmonic acid accumulation, reducing the risk of herbivore damage. Among the compounds emitted from attacked tea plants, (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene (DMNT) was found to promote resistance in intact plants by inducing the accumulation of JA.

Overexpression of the homoterpene synthase gene, OsCYP92C21, increases emissions of volatiles mediating tritrophic interactions in rice

Wei Li et al.

Summary: This study discovered the biosynthetic pathway of homoterpenes in rice and successfully enhanced homoterpene biosynthesis in rice by increasing precursor pools in subcellular compartments and overexpressing homoterpene synthase through genetic transformation. As a result, the transgenic rice plants exhibited higher homoterpene emissions and strong attractiveness to parasitic wasps.
