Reassessing the molecular structures of some previously isolated abietane diterpenoids with a naphthalene moiety and the structure-activity relationship (SAR) of quinone diterpenoids

Zahra Nazemosadat-Arsanjani et al.

Summary: This study revealed that the structures of two previously described naphthoquinone abietane diterpenoids need revision and proposed some general rules based on 1D and 2D NMR for unambiguous determination of the ortho-/para-orientation of naphthalene containing abietanes. Furthermore, the structures of several other compounds were also revised accordingly, shedding light on the structure-activity relationship of quinone diterpenoids.

Semisynthesis and Evaluation of Anti-Inflammatory Activity of the Cassane-Type Diterpenoid Taepeenin F and of Some Synthetic Intermediates

Houda Zentar et al.

Summary: A new strategy for the semisynthesis of the aromatic cassane-type diterpene taepeenin F (6) is reported, which showed potential antiproliferative activity against tumor cell lines and anti-inflammatory effects. Salicylaldehyde 21 was identified as the most active compound, inducing apoptosis in tumor cells and inhibiting inflammatory response.

Recent advances in abietane/icetexane synthesis

Juyeon Kang et al.

Summary: This review describes the synthetic strategies for abietane and icetexane diterpenoids developed during 2010-present. So far, the [6-6-6]- and [6-7-6]-tricyclic skeletons of diterpenoids have been successfully constructed through enzymatic synthesis, chemical synthesis, and semisynthesis. The ring expansion approach in semisynthesis has the advantage of generating a flexible skeleton for icetexane diterpenoids from abietane diterpenoids. Continuous research on these synthetic strategies is crucial for the development of new pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Synthesis and Biological Activity of Triterpene-Coumarin Conjugates

Karina Vega-Granados et al.

Summary: A set of 12 maslinic acid-coumarin conjugates were synthesized, with one conjugate showing the most potent anticancer effects while maintaining high cell viability for non-tumor cells. Four conjugates demonstrated apoptotic effects in cancer cells, and most compounds caused cell-cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase in all tested cancer cell lines.
