Zn doped iron oxide nanoparticles with high magnetization and photothermal efficiency for cancer treatment

Georgios Kasparis et al.

Summary: This study explored the effects of zinc doping on the magnetic properties and structural characteristics of iron oxide nanoparticles. The results showed that zinc doping improved the magnetic properties and reduced the lattice strain of the nanoparticles. The zinc ferrite nanoparticles had long-term magnetic and colloidal stability and showed similar biocompatibility to iron oxide nanoparticles. Compared to magnetothermal therapy, semiconductor photo-hyperthermia using zinc ferrite nanoparticles achieved higher efficiency and faster temperature increase.

Graphene oxide/zinc ferrite nanocomposite loaded with doxorubicin as a potential theranostic mediu in cancer therapy and magnetic resonance imaging

Rizwan Ali et al.

Summary: Hybrid functional biomaterials with biocompatibility and therapeutic and diagnostic characteristics have been developed for target site delivery. In this study, graphene oxide-zinc ferrite hybrid nanocomposites conjugated with doxorubicin were synthesized for cancer therapy and magnetic resonance imaging-based diagnosis. The nanocomposites showed cytotoxicity to cancer cells and induced cell damage and apoptosis by generating reactive oxygen species. The nanocomposites also exhibited potential application in noninvasive MR imaging.

Tunable heat generation in nickel-substituted zinc ferrite nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia

R. D. Ralandinliu Kahmei et al.

Summary: A high-performance magnetic nanoparticle as a hyperthermic agent was successfully synthesized under low applied field and frequency, with the incorporation of Ni2+ ions in the lattice system found to significantly influence the magnetic performance of the nanoparticles. Magnetocrystalline anisotropy (K-eff) was inversely proportional to the M-s value, and specific absorption rate and intrinsic loss power were achieved at a minimal concentration of 2 mg ml(-1) in a very short time period.
