Deep learning based phase transformation model for the prediction of microstructure and mechanical properties of hot-stamped parts

Yongfeng Li et al.

Summary: Hot stamping of boron steel is effective for weight reduction in automobile parts, but the loss of mechanical properties due to incomplete martensitic transformation is a challenge. In this study, a deep-learning based phase transformation model is developed to capture the history-dependent phase transformation behavior of boron steel under hot stamping conditions. The model integrates diffusive and diffusionless transformation and provides a novel approach for two-scale simulation of hot stamping process.

Determination of ductile fracture properties of 16MND5 steels under varying constraint levels using machine learning methods

Xingyue Sun et al.

Summary: The current paper presents a machine learning method based on artificial neural network (ANN) model for the determination of ductile fracture properties of 16MND5 bainitic forging steel with various three-dimensional (3D) constraint conditions. The proposed training strategy, which includes an artificially divided training set and the introduction of dropout layer, effectively reduces the training data and prevents overfitting. The ANN model shows good prediction performance and can be helpful in solving ductile fracture properties of different geometric dimensions in harsh environments.

A physics-informed multi-agents model to predict thermo-oxidative/hydrolytic aging of elastomers

Aref Ghaderi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel physics-informed multi-agents constitutive model for predicting the quasi-static constitutive behavior of cross-linked elastomers and the mechanical performance loss during environmental aging. The model, based on a data-driven machine learning engine, captures damages in the polymer matrix and changes in material behavior. It also simplifies the high-dimensional mapping problem into multiple 1D problems through a sequential order reduction method.

Effects of build positions on the thermal history, crystallization, and mechanical properties or polyamide 12 parts printed by Multi Jet Fusion

Kaijuan Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of build positions on the thermal history, crystallization, and mechanical properties of MJF PA12 parts. It is found that parts printed in the centre region experience slower cooling rate, resulting in larger crystallite size and crystallinity. However, these parts also have slightly higher tensile modulus and significantly smaller elongation at break and strain energy density compared to parts printed at the boundaries.

Influence of Atmospheric Conditions on Mechanical Properties of Polyamide with Different Content of Recycled Material in Selective Laser Sintering

Ana Pilipovic et al.

Summary: The price of material is an important factor when selecting the additive polymer procedure. In selective laser sintering (SLS), the price can be reduced by recycling material and optimizing orientation. The product also needs to withstand the influences of UV radiation and humidity. The test results show that exposure to UV radiation reduces tensile elongation, but has the opposite effect on flexural deformation.

A multi-physics approach on modeling of hygrothermal aging and its effects on constitutive behavior of cross-linked polymers

Amir Bahrololoumi et al.

Summary: A multi-physics model is proposed to predict changes in the constitutive behavior of cross linked polymeric systems due to damages induced by deformation, oxidation, moisture, and temperature. The synergized effects of deformation-induced damage, as well as different environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, and oxygen, can be taken into account through a generic model. The study indicates that hygrothermal aging can be considered as a consequence of damage accumulation of two concurrent aging mechanisms, namely; (i) thermo-oxidative, and (ii) hydrolytic aging.

Mechanical properties and fracture characterization of additive manufacturing polyamide 12 after accelerated weathering

Tuomas Puttonen et al.

Summary: This study compared the mechanical properties of additive manufacturing and conventionally manufactured plastics after weathering, finding that PA12 and PA66 from additive manufacturing were significantly affected by weathering, while carbon reinforced PA12 showed the best aging resistance due to the UV varnish. Protective coatings can increase materials' weathering resistance, but also lead to an increase in the deviation of mechanical properties.
