Optimization of processing parameters for pulsed laser welding of dissimilar metal interconnects

Nguyen Thi Tien et al.

Summary: An experimental and numerical study is conducted to optimize the processing parameters for the fabrication of dissimilar lap joints between aluminum and copper using a pulsed laser welding (PLW) method with a wobble strategy. The study applies a circle packing design algorithm to select representative combinations of laser power and welding speed, which are then used in a computational fluidic dynamics (CFD) model to predict the weld pool geometry and copper concentration. The results are used to construct processing maps and determine the parameters that produce high-quality dissimilar joints.

Effect of radiative heat transfer on thermal-solutal Marangoni convection in a shallow rectangular cavity with mutually perpendicular temperature and concentration gradients

Jian-Gao Zhang et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional numerical simulations revealed that the contributions of thermal and solutal Marangoni flows were similar under different ambient temperature conditions. Additionally, the intensity of the thermal Marangoni effect decreased first and then increased with an increase in ambient temperature. The flow stability was lost when the Marangoni number exceeded a critical value, and different oscillatory flow patterns were observed under the influence of thermal radiation.

Study on the Influence of Capillary Force and Thermal Capillary Force on Surface Bulge Morphology by Laser Micro-Melting

Xiping Yang et al.

Summary: The study establishes a laser micro-melting model, taking into account the effects of boundary heat transfer, recoil pressure, surface tension, capillary force, and thermal capillary force on micro-flow. It reveals that the height variation of the morphology bulge is mainly caused by recoil pressure and capillary force. It shows that in the heating stage, molten metal flow is dominated by capillary force and thermal capillary force, while in the cooling stage, the capillary force is the main driving force for metal flow, gradually converging from both sides to the middle.

Summary: In this study, deep penetration laser beam welding was simulated using the SPH method. The simulation considered various physical phenomena such as elastic material behavior, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and phase transitions. A ray-tracing scheme was used to determine the energy input of the laser beam, and an improved recoil pressure model was introduced. Two boundary conditions were validated using simple examples, and the results showed that recoil pressure plays a key role in the formation of deep capillaries and the acceleration of the surrounding melt.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of changing the assist gas on nanosecond laser engraving of Cr12MoV mold steel, and found that the use of oxygen gas during rough engraving increased the efficiency, while Argon gas at final engraving steps improved the quality of the engraved surface. Results also showed that the exothermal chemical reactions significantly increased the efficiency of laser engraving, but deteriorated the surface quality and promoted the detachment of elements C and Cr in the remelting layer.
