Dynamic response of an orthotropic hollow cylinder under thermal shock based on Green-Lindsay theory

Hamid Sharifi

Summary: This research studies the thermoelastic response of an orthotropic hollow cylinder under thermal shock using generalized thermoelasticity. The governing equations are derived and an analytical solution is presented using Finite Hankel transformation. The results are validated by comparing with known data in the literature.

A three-dimensional investigation of the thermoelastic effect in an enhanced geothermal system reservoir

Musa D. Aliyu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical model to investigate the influence of thermoelasticity on the thermal performance of enhanced geothermal system (EGS) reservoirs. The results demonstrate that thermoelasticity reduces the energy extraction rate and affects reservoir impedance and thermal front propagation.

High frequency multi-field continualization scheme for layered magneto-electro-elastic materials

Rosaria Del Toro et al.

Summary: In this study, the magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) heterogeneous materials with periodic microstructure, specifically the layered MEE material, are investigated. The frequency dispersion spectrum is derived using the transfer matrix method and Floquet-Bloch boundary conditions, and an eigenproblem involving a 12 x 12 transfer matrix is solved. The problems of longitudinal and transverse elastic waves are uncoupled by assuming the cubic symmetry of layers, simplifying the treatment and subproblems to be solved.

Asymptotic homogenization approach for anisotropic micropolar modeling of periodic Cauchy materials

Andrea Bacigalupo et al.

Summary: A micropolar-based asymptotic homogenization approach is proposed for analyzing composite materials with periodic microstructure. The macro descriptors are consistently derived and shown to be directly related to perturbation functions and micropolar two-dimensional deformation modes. An energy equivalence concept is introduced to derive the consistent overall micropolar constitutive tensors.

A general boundary layer corrector for the asymptotic homogenization of elastic linear composite structures

Mouad Fergoug et al.

Summary: The asymptotic homogenization method is commonly used in the multiscale analysis of periodic structures to achieve computational feasibility and efficiency. This paper proposes a post-processing scheme within a finite element framework for periodic linear elastic composite materials, which assesses the boundary layer effect and introduces a new general method for various boundary conditions. The efficiency, accuracy, and limitations of the proposed approach are studied on various numerical examples.

Design of tunable hierarchical waveguides based on Fibonacci-like microstructure

Andrea Bacigalupo et al.

Summary: This article presents a novel class of Fibonacci-based tunable hierarchical waveguides that are designed for adaptive-passive control systems for wave propagation. By repeating an elementary cell made up of two building blocks according to the Fibonacci sequence, the waveguide can be tuned by adjusting the impedance/admittance of the materials. The frequency band structure of the tunable waveguide can be determined using a transfer matrix approach.

Dispersive waves in magneto-electro-elastic periodic waveguides

Rosaria Del Toro et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of heterogeneous multi-phase cells on the propagation of multifield Bloch waves in magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials. The dispersion properties are analyzed through analytical determination and perturbation methods. It is found that slow-propagating quasi-shear-elastic waves dominate the low-frequency range, while fast-propagating quasi-magneto-electric waves dominate the high-frequency range. The propagation and attenuation behaviors of these waves can be controlled by varying the physical parameters.

Variational-asymptotic homogenization of thermoelastic periodic materials with thermal relaxation

Deison Preve et al.

Summary: A multi-scale variational-asymptotic homogenization method is developed for periodic microstructured materials in presence of thermoelasticity with periodic spatially dependent one relaxation time. The method establishes equivalence between macro-scale and micro-scale equations, leading to efficient computation of the microscopic fields in terms of the macroscopic ones. Results show good agreement with heterogeneous continuum theory.
