Perforation studies of concrete panel under high velocity projectile impact based on an improved dynamic constitutive model

Fei Zhou et al.

Summary: This study provides a numerical investigation on the impact resistance and dynamic fracture failures of finite-depth concrete panels under high velocity projectile impact. It introduces an improved dynamic concrete model and validates it through simulation of projectile high velocity impact tests. The study also evaluates the effectiveness of existing empirical formulae in predicting the depth of penetration and scabbing/perforation limits of concrete panels.

Dynamic increase factor (DIF) for concrete in compression and tension in FE modelling with a local concrete model

Xiao-qin Li et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical study on the compression and tension dynamic increase factor (DIF) of concrete-like materials. It is found that the compression DIF is mainly influenced by dynamic structural effects, while the tension DIF is controlled by different mechanisms, possibly related to material and micro-fracture. The study also proposes a mesh-objective modification method for high strain-rate tension analysis.

The ballistic evaluation of plain, reinforced and reinforced-prestressed concrete

Kamran et al.

Summary: This study investigates the performance of different types of concrete plates under the ballistic experiments at incidence velocities close to the ballistic limit. The results show that the introduction of prestress can enhance the penetration resistance of concrete and reduce the volume of concrete spalling. The ballistic limit of the prestressed concrete plate is higher than that of the non-prestressed concrete plates.

Determination and evaluation of Holmquist-Johnson-Cook constitutive model parameters for ultra-high-performance concrete with steel fibers

Wenzheng Wan et al.

Summary: The study determined a set of HJC model parameters for UHPC with varying steel fiber volume ratios based on existing test data. The calibrated parameters were successfully verified in simulating the behavior of UHPC under impact and blast loading conditions, demonstrating their potential guidance for future research in this field.

Modelling damage mechanisms of concrete under high confinement pressure

Yin Wang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on physically modeling the damage mechanisms in concrete structures under blast and impact loadings, with particular consideration given to high confinement situations. By introducing a new damage model, the interactions between different damage mechanisms are successfully simulated, revealing the physical mechanisms behind the observed dynamic failures in reinforced concrete slabs subjected to explosions and projectile impacts.
