Investigation of mechanical and surface properties of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg part produced through direct metal laser sintering

Harsh Soni et al.

Summary: Additive manufacturing (AM) is an advanced method of producing complex three-dimensional components using layer-by-layer deposition. In this study, the mechanical and surface properties of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg parts by DMLS were investigated and compared with conventional casting samples. The results showed that additively manufactured components exhibited better mechanical properties and surface characteristics compared to conventionally cast aluminium alloy.

Rate-related study on mechanical properties and fracture characteristics in aluminium alloy via electromagnetic ring expansion test

Huijuan Ma et al.

Summary: The uniform one-dimensional tension can be achieved at high strain rates through the electromagnetic ring expansion (EMRE) test, but accurately and rapidly obtaining the time-dependent stress, strain, and strain rate has been a bottleneck. By establishing a stress analytical model and conducting experiments, it was found that the dynamic mechanical properties of AA5052 under EMRE test have been improved, with enhanced ductility and formability.

High strain rate effect on tensile ductility and fracture of AM fabricated Inconel 718 with voided microstructures

P. Wood et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of a randomly dispersed spherically voided microstructure on tensile ductility, fracture, and fragmentation at high strain rate using Electromagnetic Ring Expansion Tests (ERET) on Laser Melting Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) Inconel 718 stress relieved test pieces. An empirical model to predict porosity type and growth rates based on laser energy density was established to select LPBF process parameters. The study found a significant positive strain rate effect on tensile ductility at lower porosities.
