Pyrolysis of biomass Tar model compound with various Ni-based catalysts: Influence of promoters characteristics on hydrogen-rich gas formation

Xueqin Li et al.

Summary: This paper studied the conditions and mechanism of hydrogen-rich gas produced from catalytic pyrolysis of toluene by various Ni-based catalysts. The results showed that Fe-modified Ni/HZSM-5 catalyst had the highest efficiency in hydrogen production. The smaller crystal particles, high surface area, and sufficient loading quality of Ni-Fe catalysts provided efficient active sites and promoted the pyrolysis process of toluene. The activity and stability of catalysts were also improved by Ce-modified Ni/ZSM-5 catalyst, but with lower hydrogen yield. Ni-Mg/HZSM-5 catalyst had the lowest activity and stability, attributed to nickel sintering and coke formation. The Ni-Fe/HZ5 catalyst maintained high catalytic activity even after two regenerations.

Effect of microwave pretreatment on catalytic gasification of spirit-based distillers' grains to hydrogen-rich syngas

Songhong Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of microwave pretreatment (MWP) on the steam gasification of spirit-based distillers' grains (SDGs), and finds that the addition of red mud (RM) can enhance the effect of MWP. The results show that MWP significantly improves the gasification rate, total gas yield, and H-2/CO ratio. Additionally, there is a synergistic catalytic mechanism between RM and MWP.

Catalytic activity evaluation and deactivation progress of red mud/carbonaceous catalyst for efficient biomass gasification tar cracking

Jiaxing Wang et al.

Summary: Developing an efficient and inexpensive catalyst for the removal of tar is crucial in biomass gasification technology. In this study, a red mud/carbonaceous catalyst was prepared through in-situ carbothermal reduction and showed improved catalytic activity and stability. The catalyst achieved a tar conversion efficiency of 88.70% at a temperature of 700 degrees C and maintained 80.15% conversion after nine cycles.

Spirit-based distillers' grains and red mud synergistically catalyse the steam gasification of anthracite to produce hydrogen-rich synthesis gas

Aiming Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that spirit-based distillers' grains (SDGs) and red mud (RM) exhibit a synergistic catalytic effect in coal steam gasification, enhancing gasification activity and hydrogen production efficiency. Higher temperatures weaken this effect, while the strongest synergistic catalytic effect is observed at a specific ratio.

A novel nickel catalyst supported on activated steel slags for syngas production and tar removal from biomass pyrolysis

Yuexi Wu et al.

Summary: A nickel-based steel slag catalyst was used for catalytic reforming of primary volatiles from pyrolysis of pine sawdust. The optimal catalyst, 0.5M-Ni/SS800, significantly improved tar conversion rate and gas yield. Synergistic catalytic effects of elements in the catalyst such as Ni, Fe, Ca, and Mg were observed to form active centers, enhancing catalytic activity and coke deposition resistance.

LDH-derived Ni-MgO-Al2O3 catalysts for hydrogen-rich syngas production via steam reforming of biomass tar model: Effect of catalyst synthesis methods

Shanmukapriya Jayaprakash et al.

Summary: Steam reforming of toluene (SRT) using Ni-MgO-Al2O3 hydrotalcite catalysts synthesized by urea hydrolysis, coprecipitation, and wet impregnation methods was investigated. Catalysts prepared by urea hydrolysis exhibited higher toluene conversion and resistance to carbon deposits due to smaller Ni-0 particle size and higher surface basicity.
