EEG Feature Analysis Related to Situation Awareness Assessment and Discrimination

Chuanyan Feng et al.

Summary: This study successfully classified two different groups based on situation awareness (SA) levels using electroencephalography (EEG) features and identified EEG features that are sensitive to SA. These findings provide a basis for real-time assessment and discrimination of SA, which is crucial for monitoring SA decrement that might pose threats to flight safety.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Direct Objective Measures of Situation Awareness: A Comparison of SAGAT and SPAM

Mica R. Endsley

Summary: The study found that SAGAT is a highly sensitive, reliable, and predictive measure of SA that is useful across various domains and experimental settings, while SPAM and other methods have lower sensitivity. Additionally, concerns regarding memory reliance, assessment of Team SA, and other issues need to be addressed.

An experimental study on the effects of task complexity and knowledge and experience level on SA, TSA and workload

Peng-cheng Li et al.

Summary: The study shows that task complexity significantly affects operators' level of situational awareness (SA) and team situational awareness (TSA), with higher complexity leading to lower levels of SA and TSA; operators with higher levels of knowledge and experience demonstrate higher levels of SA and TSA. Additionally, task complexity and operators' level of knowledge and experience have a significant impact on operators' workload, with higher complexity increasing workload levels and higher knowledge and experience decreasing workload levels for operators.

A path analysis model of individual variables predicting safety behavior and human error: The mediating effect of situation awareness

Iraj Mohammadfam et al.

Summary: This study examined the influence of variables on safety performance, with a focus on the mediating effect of situation awareness. The results showed that safety knowledge, sleepiness, and fatigue had significant effects on safety behavior and human error, while safety locus of control only mediated human error through situation awareness. Better safety knowledge and an internal safety locus of control were found to enhance situation awareness, while daily sleepiness and fatigue had detrimental effects on it. This study highlights the importance of situation awareness in influencing safe behaviors and human errors.
