Influence of the composition of separately laser-generated metal vapor on arc stability

Insa Henze et al.

Summary: The presence of metal vapor affects the stability of arc in arc and hybrid welding. The composition of the metal vapor and the substrate material composition play a key role due to different ionization energies of the material elements. A special setup is used to investigate the influence of metal vapor on the behavior of a vertically oriented arc generated by a separate laser-induced vapor generation welding process. Experimental results show that the arc voltage increases under the presence of metal vapor, leading to a decrease in arc stability.

Dynamic keyhole behaviors and element mixing in paraxial hybrid plasma-MIG welding with a gap

Dongsheng Wu et al.

Summary: A paraxial hybrid plasma-MIG welding process has been developed for joining middle-thick high strength steel plates. The study investigates the characteristics of the arc and metal vapor using an advanced three-dimensional spectroscope measurement system. The dynamic behaviors of the keyhole and element mixing are studied using a three-dimensional numerical model. The experimental and numerical results reveal that the Fe vapor ejected from the wire surface, along with the butting gap, significantly influence the arc characteristics, keyhole stability, molten metal flow, and element mixing.

Mechanism investigation for the influence of laser power on droplet transfer behaviors in laser-MIG hybrid welding

Fuyun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of laser power on droplet transfer in laser-MIG hybrid welding. The results indicate that increasing laser power can improve the transfer frequency, but it decreases once the power exceeds a critical value. Considering factors such as laser source characteristics, materials, laser focusing distance, and laser-arc distance, these findings provide guidance for optimizing welding processes, improving weld quality, and preventing spatters.

A new understanding of laser-arc plasma interaction of hybrid welding based on arc layering behaviors

Xin Li et al.

Summary: Current studies of laser-arc plasma interaction have overlooked the layering behaviors of the metal inert gas (MIG) arc, leading to a lack of understanding of laser-MIG hybrid welding. This study investigated the effects of laser power on the double-layer MIG, which consists of an outer plasma layer and a core metal vapor layer. The results showed that the emergence of arc layering was delayed by laser-arc plasma interaction, with the outer layer expanding and the core layer constricting due to laser power. These findings provide a more reasonable explanation for weld shape variations and highlight the importance of considering arc layering in laser-arc hybrid processes.

Research Status of Stability in Dynamic Process of Laser-Arc Hybrid Welding Based on Droplet Transfer Behavior: A Review

Qingyong Liu et al.

Summary: Laser-arc hybrid welding (LAHW) technology combines laser and arc heat sources to improve welding speed, penetration depth, and gap-bridging ability. This review focuses on the fundamental concepts and characteristics of droplet transfer behavior in LAHW, emphasizing the physical interaction between laser and arc and the effect of combined heat sources on the welding process. Critical factors affecting droplet transfer characteristics, such as laser-to-arc distance, heat source leading mode, shielding gas composition, and laser power, are identified. The review provides important insights into the understanding, progress, and future research directions of LAHW.

Effect of laser on double-arc physical characteristics in pulsed laser-induced double-TIG welding

Liming Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the coupling-enhanced discharge phenomenon between double-arcs induced by pulsed laser, and its impact on the melting efficiency. The results demonstrate that an appropriate horizontal distance can achieve synchronous laser induction to double-arc plasma and improve the heat source's melting efficiency. The migration of particles in double-arc can be divided into four stages, and laser induction forms a common compressed conductive channel.

Effect of droplet transition on the dynamic behavior of the keyhole during 6061 aluminum alloy laser-MIG hybrid welding

Yue Li et al.

Summary: The simulation method in laser-MIG hybrid welding reveals the complex physical phenomena and dynamic behavior of the molten pool keyhole. The experimental results show that the droplet transition behavior affects the formation of the keyhole, with the smallest keyhole formed when the droplet comes into contact with the molten pool. Additionally, droplet transition brings external momentum and energy to the molten pool, contributing to an increase in the flow rate of the molten pool.

Wei Sun et al.

Summary: This paper comparatively investigated the droplet transfer behavior between flux-cored arc welding and laser-flux cored arc hybrid welding, proposing a new parameter to evaluate welding stability and identifying different droplet transfer modes. The laser influenced droplet transfer but did not significantly impact the process stability between hybrid welding and FCAW.

Characteristics of droplet transfer, molten pool formation, and weld bead formation of oscillating laser hot-wire tungsten inert gas hybrid welding

Chengyuan Ma et al.

Summary: Oscillating laser hot-wire tungsten inert gas (TIG) hybrid welding resulted in larger molten pool area, more intense fluid flow, and better weld bead formation compared to TIG or normal laser-TIG hybrid welding. The dynamic wire feed led to mainly contact transfer of droplets, with the transfer frequency equal to the wire feed frequency and independent of heat source parameters. The addition of laser increased arc voltage, active power, and improved the efficiency of hybrid welding.

Droplet Transfer Induced Keyhole Fluctuation and Its Influence Regulation on Porosity Rate during Hybrid Laser Arc Welding of Aluminum Alloys

Leilei Wang et al.

Summary: Hybrid laser arc welding (HLAW) shows advantages in aluminum alloy welding, but porosity is a critical issue to be aware of. The experimental results indicate that the globular transfer is the main cause of keyhole fluctuation and weld porosity in HLAW. The study also reveals that the welding current significantly influences the keyhole fluctuation and porosity rate during the welding process.
