Detection of sentinel lymph node in vulvar cancer using 99mTc-labeled colloid lymphoscintigraphy, blue dye, and indocyanine-green fluorescence: a meta-analysis of studies published in 2010-2020

Mariano Catello Di Donna et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis suggests that the use of ICG and PL, alone or in combination, is favored over blue dye for the detection of sentinel lymph nodes in vulvar cancer. Future studies may investigate the combined approach for achieving the highest detection rate in patients with vulvar cancer.

Complications and risk factors in vulvar cancer surgery - A population-based study

Camilla Rahm et al.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors and prevalence of complications in modern vulvar cancer surgery. The findings suggest that surgical complications are still common in vulvar cancer surgery and increase with the extent of groin surgery. Early diagnosis and avoiding certain surgeries appear to be important factors in minimizing complications.

Sentinel lymph node procedure in patients with recurrent vulvar squamous cell carcinoma: a proposed protocol for a multicentre observational study

Helena C. van Doorn et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the safety of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in women with a first recurrence of vulvar cancer. By prospectively gathering information on diagnostics, treatment and outcome of women with recurrent vulvar cancer, the study examines the feasibility and efficacy of the SLN procedure. If proven safe and feasible, the SLN procedure could potentially be implemented in clinics worldwide.

Patterns of recurrence and survival in vulvar cancer: A nationwide population-based study

Diana Zach et al.

Summary: This study revealed that local recurrence was the most common pattern in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, with increasing cumulative incidence over time, while distant recurrence was least common. Local recurrences had the highest survival rates post-recurrence, and the omission of surgical groin staging significantly impacted recurrence-free and overall survival.

FIGO staging for carcinoma of the vulva: 2021 revision

Alexander B. Olawaiye et al.

Summary: This study introduces the revision of FIGO staging for carcinoma of the vulva using a new data-derived approach, which simplifies the staging and makes it more intuitive. The revised staging, based on data analysis, is validated and much simpler than previous versions, showing clear separation between stages and substages.

Maaike H. M. Oonk et al.

Summary: The study found that inguinofemoral radiotherapy is a safe alternative to inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy for patients with micrometastases in sentinel nodes, while it resulted in more isolated groin recurrences compared to lymphadenectomy for patients with macrometastases in sentinel nodes.
