Biological Control of Plant Pathogens: A Global Perspective

Rachid Lahlali et al.

Summary: The increase in world population has resulted in higher demands for agricultural products. However, the use of chemical pesticides has caused concerns over their impact on human health and the environment. As a result, researchers have turned to biological controls using beneficial microorganisms, but the development of biofungicides has faced challenges. This review focuses on the gap between the screening of biological control agents and the availability of marketed products, and highlights the obstacles in terms of efficacy and legislation procedures.

Ecology of yeasts associated with kernels of several durum wheat genotypes and their role in co-culture with Saccharomyces cerevisiae during dough leavening

Antonio Alfonzo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the yeast ecology of durum wheat and evaluated the interaction between kernel yeasts and commercial baker's yeast during dough leavening. It identified multiple yeast species and suggested potential candidates for co-inoculation with commercial starter S. cerevisiae to improve the sensory characteristics of bread.

Microtubule-assisted mechanism for toxisome assembly in Fusarium graminearum

Zehua Zhou et al.

Summary: In Fusarium graminearum, alpha(1) and beta(2) tubulins are essential for deoxynivalenol (DON) biosynthesis, with disruption of the alpha(1)-beta(2) tubulin heterodimer leading to impaired toxisome metabolic activity and decreased DON production. This study suggests that the alpha(1)-beta(2) tubulin heterodimer acts as the scaffold for functional toxisome assembly in F. graminearum.
