Antimullerian hormone and adiposity across midlife among women in Project Viva

Ellen C. Francis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association of AMH with measures of adiposity during approximately 9 years of follow-up. The results showed that AMH was inversely associated with weight, BMI, and waist circumference. Low AMH was also associated with higher fat mass. Further research is needed to determine the role of low AMH as a marker of metabolic risk in midlife.

Associations of age at first birth and lifetime parity with weight and adiposity across midlife in women from Project Viva

Diana C. C. Soria-Contreras et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the associations of age at first birth and parity with weight, waist circumference (WC), and body fat across midlife. A secondary data analysis was conducted with 735 participants from Project Viva. The results showed that women who had their first birth before age 23 years or after age 40 years, as well as those with four or more births, had a higher trajectory of weight, WC, and body fat after their final birth.

Comparing GENEActiv against Actiwatch-2 over Seven Nights Using a Common Sleep Scoring Algorithm and Device-Specific Wake Thresholds

Claire A. Jenkins et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of GENEActiv against Actiwatch-2 over multiple nights using a common algorithm. The results showed that GENEActiv had good sensitivity and overall accuracy, but lower specificity. There were no significant inter-device differences in sleep parameters, indicating the reliability of GENEActiv compared to Actiwatch-2.

Associations of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus with menopausal symptoms at midlife in Project Viva

Diana C. Soria-Contreras et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the associations of a lifetime history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) with menopausal symptoms in midlife. The findings suggest that there is no association between a history of HDP or GDM and the severity of menopausal symptoms or age at the onset of natural menopause.

Associations of concurrent PCB and PBDE serum concentrations with executive functioning in adolescents

Jenna L. N. Sprowles et al.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) on executive functions in adolescents. The findings suggest that exposure to these chemicals during adolescence may be associated with impaired cognitive flexibility and visual recognition memory deficits.

Association of total lifetime breastfeeding duration with midlife handgrip strength: findings from Project Viva

Irasema C. Paster et al.

Summary: This study suggests that there is a small beneficial effect of lifetime breastfeeding duration on handgrip strength. Future studies can explore mechanisms by which breastfeeding duration affects body composition and associations with other outcomes related to lean mass such as sarcopenia.

History of infertility and long-term weight, body composition, and blood pressure among women in Project Viva

Diana C. Soria-Contreras et al.

Summary: A study of 1581 women found that those with a history of infertility had significant differences in long-term weight, waist circumference, body fat, and blood pressure. A history of infertility may serve as an important marker to identify women at higher cardiometabolic risk.

Self-reported menstrual cycle length during reproductive years in relation to menopausal symptoms at midlife in Project Viva

Lidia Minguez-Alarcon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between self-reported menstrual cycle length during reproductive years and menopausal symptoms and age at natural menopause. The results showed that women with short menstrual cycles during their reproductive years had a higher frequency of menopausal symptoms at midlife and reached menopause earlier.

Separating Algorithms From Questions and Causal Inference With Unmeasured Exposures: An Application to Birth Cohort Studies of Early Body Mass Index Rebound

Izzuddin M. Aris et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between childhood BMI rebound and subsequent cardiometabolic outcomes using a stochastic intervention approach. The results showed a protective effect of intervention on fat mass index but weaker or no effects on other cardiometabolic outcomes. The study highlights the importance of distinguishing between algorithms and causal questions in causal inference with complex exposures.

Childhood patterns of overweight and wheeze and subsequent risk of current asthma and obesity in adolescence

Izzuddin M. Aris et al.

Summary: This study compared two analytical approaches to investigate the relationship between childhood obesity and asthma. The results showed a higher risk of adolescent asthma with persistent childhood overweight, and a higher risk of adolescent obesity with persistent childhood wheeze. The precision of latent class growth models (LCGM) results were stronger and more precise, while the results from inverse probability weighting (IPW) were less conclusive.

Separating Algorithms From Questions and Causal Inference With Unmeasured Exposures: An Application to Birth Cohort Studies of Early Body Mass Index Rebound

Izzuddin M. Aris et al.

Summary: The study investigated the association between childhood BMI rebound and adolescent cardiometabolic outcomes. By considering stochastic interventions on modifiable yet unmeasured exposures, results showed a protective effect on fat mass index through targeted maximum likelihood estimation.
