Simple synthesis of BiOI/ZnO/rGO for efficient photocatalytic degradation of antibiotic chloramphenicol under visible light

Zihan Zhu et al.

Summary: A BiOI/ZnO/rGO composite photocatalyst was fabricated and applied to degrade the antibiotic chloramphenicol (CAP). The composite material exhibited excellent photocatalytic properties, with a degradation rate significantly higher than that of BiOI and ZnO alone. The synergistic effect between rGO and BiOI/ZnO was found to enhance photocurrents, conductivity, and charge carrier densities. Moreover, the composite material showed good stability and reusability.

Biofuel production, hydrogen production and water remediation by photocatalysis, biocatalysis and electrocatalysis

Ahmed I. Osman et al.

Summary: In response to the energy crisis and environmental pollution, research on efficient methods such as environmental catalysis for biofuel production and water purification has increased. Environmental catalysis involves the use of green catalysts to break down pollutants and produce chemicals without generating undesirable by-products. This review focuses on environmental photocatalysis, biocatalysis, and electrocatalysis, covering catalyst synthesis, structure, and applications. Biomass-derived materials, metal-organic frameworks, non-noble metals nanoparticles, nanocomposites, and enzymes are common catalysts. Water pollutants can be efficiently degraded using heterogeneous Fenton catalysis, with degradation rates ranging from 71.7% to 100%. Photocatalysis can produce dihydrogen (H-2) at a generation rate exceeding 100 μmol h(-1), while methane cracking yields dihydrogen ranging from 27% to 88%. Biodiesel production ranges from 48.6% to 99%.

Recent Advances in ZnO-Based Nanostructures for the Photocatalytic Degradation of Hazardous, Non-Biodegradable Medicines

K. M. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Antibiotics are pervasive contaminants in water systems, posing a threat to aquatic life and humans. Excessive use of antibiotics has led to unintended consequences, with hospital and industrial wastewater containing high concentrations of antibiotics and other drugs. This review discusses recent advances in the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics, antidepressants, contraceptives, and anti-inflammatories using ZnO-based nanostructures. The study provides comprehensive understanding of the degradation process and examines the challenges and future outlook in using ZnO-based nanomaterials for wastewater treatment.

One-pot in-situ hydrothermal synthesis of ternary In2S3/Nb2O5/Nb2C Schottky/S-scheme integrated heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production

Muhammad Tayyab et al.

Summary: MXene-derived photocatalysts have the potential for developing photo-driven green and sustainable fuel production, but their efficiency is currently low. In this study, a ternary photocatalyst derived from Nb2C MXene was synthesized, leading to improved efficiency and stability in photocatalytic hydrogen production. The optimized ternary photocatalyst composite exhibited the highest H-2 evolution efficiency and maintained high activity after multiple cycles.

Flower-like ZnO/BiOI p-n heterojunction composites for enhanced photodegradation of formaldehyde and dyes

Gang Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, a nanoflower like p-n heterojunction photocatalyst ZnO/BiOI was prepared and showed enhanced degradation rate for Rhodamine B and formaldehyde under visible light. The p-type BiOI with narrow band gap effectively enhanced visible light absorption, and its p-n heterojunction with ZnO significantly improved the separation efficiency and transfer rate of photogenerated electron hole pairs. The multi-dimensional nanoflower structure improved light utilization and exposed more catalytic active sites.

J. Singh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synthesis of Ag-Zn nanoferrites with different combinations of Co and Ni using the low-temperature solution combustion method, highlighting the control of magnetic properties and particle size. The materials exhibited a pure cubic atomic structure and a semispherical, monodisperse morphology, with magnetic behavior explained by factors such as saturation magnetization, coercivity, and retentivity. DFT modeling was utilized to understand the effect of metal substitution within the ferrite crystal cell, showing potential for developing new materials for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
