A multiplicative finite strain deformation for diffusion-induced stress: An incremental approach

Fuqian Yang et al.

Summary: Understanding the evolution of lithium concentration and stresses in electrode materials during electrochemical cycling is crucial for studying the degradation mechanisms of lithiated electrode materials. This study analyzes the diffusion-induced volume expansion by the change rate of the host material's volume and establishes an exponential relationship between volume expansion, concentration of solute atoms, and coefficient of linear expansion. The constitutive relation for diffusion-induced finite deformation of elastic materials is derived using the principle of multiplicative decomposition. The spatial distributions of lithium concentration and stresses in a spherical silicon electrode are found to exhibit similar trends to those calculated from linear elasticity theory and nonlinear characteristics.

The thermoelasticity problem for pressure vessels with protective coatings, operating under conditions of mechanochemical corrosion

Olga Sedova et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a unified closed-form solution for calculating the lifetime of elastic spherical and cylindrical vessels subjected to pressures of corrosive media at different temperatures, taking into consideration the mechanochemical effect, the presence of anticorrosion coatings, and potential corrosion inhibition. The life of the vessels is determined by the competition of different mechanisms.

Modeling stress-affected chemical reactions in composite materials

Elena Vilchevskaya

Summary: The paper focuses on modeling stress-affected localized chemical reactions in particles embedded in a matrix material using the self-consistent field method. It examines the influence of matrix elastic properties and particle volume fraction on the kinetics of the chemical reaction front, which is governed by the chemical affinity tensor dependent on the stress-strain state.

On equilibrium two-phase microstructures at plane strain

Alexander B. Freidin et al.

Summary: Stress-induced phase transformations in linear elastic solids are studied based on finding optimal composite microstructures and satisfying thermodynamic equilibrium conditions. The research demonstrates strain hardening, strain softening effects, and incomplete gradual phase transformation under different deformation paths.

Phase transformations, fracture, and other structural changes in inelastic materials

Valery I. Levitas

Summary: This review article examines the interaction between phase transformations, fracture, and other structural changes in inelastic materials. It focuses on concepts developed by the author's group over the past three decades, as well as their impact on the field. The article discusses general thermodynamic and kinetic theories, with a focus on sharp interfaces and within phase field approach, and presents analytical and numerical solutions to illustrate the main features of the developed theories and their application to real phenomena.
