On the layerwise finite element formulation for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates

Hicham Hirane et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel finite element model for the analysis of static and free vibration of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates, with a computationally efficient element developed for the model. The results indicate promising accuracy and convergence rate for thin and thick FGM sandwich plates.

Guided waves in periodically stratified plates: Deficiency of homogenizations

S. V. Kuznetsov

Summary: The dispersion of guided waves in stratified composite plates containing alternating layers with different physical properties was analyzed using a combination of different mathematical methods. The method revealed significant differences in dispersion patterns between plates containing even and odd numbers of alternating layers, which persisted even with a large number of layers. The discrepancy between even and odd sets may prevent the application of existing methods for obtaining dispersion patterns in stratified media with alternating layers.

High efficiency analysis model for composite honeycomb sandwich plate by using variational asymptotic method

Shi Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, an equivalent model of a composite honeycomb sandwich plate is developed and the effects of layup configurations, geometric parameters of the honeycomb core, and boundary conditions on its performance are systematically studied. The 2D-EPM demonstrates high precision and calculation efficiency, serving as an effective tool for design and optimization of the CHSP.
