Dynamic two-layer game for striking the balance of interest in multi-agent electricity market considering bilateral contracts and reward-punishment mechanism

L. L. Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a dynamic two-layer game strategy in the multi-agent electricity market, which achieves the balance of power supply and demand, as well as the balance of interests through the cooperation of wholesale and retail markets, and the reward and punishment mechanism for suppliers.

Agent-based retail competition and portfolio optimization in liberalized electricity markets: A study involving real-world consumers

H. Algarvio et al.

Summary: This article examines the impact of energy market liberalization on the electric power industry, focusing on the optimization of retailers' portfolios using a risk-return model. The study finds that risk-seeking retailers benefit more from retail markets, while risk-averse retailers can achieve higher returns in both favorable and unfavorable situations.

Intertemporal effects of imperfect competition through forward contracts in wholesale electricity markets

Camilo A. Gallego

Summary: This paper quantifies how market power and uncompetitive behavior in forward markets affect equilibrium prices to the detriment of consumers in the electricity industry in Colombia. It shows how the inclusion of price-endogenous forward contract terms can deteriorate competition in wholesale electricity markets. The study finds that the use of endogenous forward contracts increases spot prices.

Multi-step optimization of the purchasing options of power retailers to feed their portfolios of consumers

H. Algarvio

Summary: This article discusses the impact of the liberalization of the retail market of electricity on end-use consumers and how retailers choose their electricity purchasing options. Through risk-return optimization and decision support systems, retailers can increase their return on investment from electricity markets and offer more competitive tariffs to consumers.

Mixed supply function-Cournot equilibrium model of futures and day-ahead electricity markets

Mohsen Banaei et al.

Summary: This study examines the mutual impacts of futures and day-ahead electricity markets using a mixed supply function-Cournot equilibrium model. The model considers strategic behavior of market players, mark-to-market settlement in futures market, dynamics of players' behavior, and transmission system constraints. An upgraded risk management method is introduced and applied to a test system to discuss the impacts of different parameters on the results.

Impacts of large-scale penetration of wind power on day-ahead electricity markets and forward contracts

Mohsen Banaei et al.

Summary: The behavior of market players in the forward and day-ahead electricity markets in the presence of large-scale wind farms is studied in this paper. Modeling the delivery period considering different outcomes for the contracting period and then modeling the contracting period considering the delivery period outcomes. Equilibrium models are presented for each model, with both uniform and pay-as-bid pricing models considered for the day-ahead market. Simulation results are presented, analyzed, and compared for models applied to a test system case study.

Analysis of fixed volume swaps for hedging financial risk at large-scale wind projects

Zachary Lucy et al.

Summary: Large scale wind power projects are increasingly selling power directly into wholesale electricity markets, leading to a need for financial hedging contracts to mitigate price risk. The use of fixed volume price swaps is common but has drawbacks that reduce effectiveness, as explored in this paper. Research findings suggest that wind power producers should hedge lower volumes of power production and reduce basis risk to improve contract performance.
