Probabilistic projections and past trends of sea level rise in Finland

Havu Pellikka et al.

Summary: This study explores past trends and future projections of mean sea level in the Finnish coast of the northeastern Baltic Sea. The relative sea level change is decomposed into regional sea level rise, postglacial land uplift, and the effect of changes in wind climate. Future projections are constructed by combining global sea level rise projections and climate model results, yielding probability distributions of sea level change for different emission scenarios.

Differences in multi-model ensembles of CMIP5 and CMIP6 projections for future droughts in South Korea

Young Hoon Song et al.

Summary: This study quantified the uncertainties of future drought projections in South Korea using ensemble averaging and found that the severity of drought projections is influenced by meteorological indices and future scenarios, with projected drought intensity expected to be more severe in the future than in the present.

Uncertainties in evapotranspiration projections associated with estimation methods and CMIP6 GCMs for South Korea

Young Hoon Song et al.

Summary: This study compared three potential evapotranspiration (PET) methods in simulating historical and future daily PET levels in South Korea. The PETs estimated using the three methods showed high performance in the historical period. Overall, PETs showed an increase in the future periods, with the PM method showing the greatest increase. This study contributes to our understanding of rational PET methods for calculating hydrological factors in the future using GCM simulations.

Multi-model projections of future evaporation in a sub-tropical lake

Sofia La Fuente et al.

Summary: Lake evaporation is important for the water budget of lakes. Predicting its response to climate change is crucial for mitigation and adaption strategies. This study presents a multi-model analysis to understand evaporation responses to climate change.

Updated nationally determined contributions collectively raise ambition levels but need strengthening further to keep Paris goals within reach

Michel G. J. den Elzen et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the greenhouse gas emissions and macroeconomic impacts of the new NDCs submitted by 156 countries. The results show that while these new NDCs contribute to additional reductions in global emissions by 2030, achieving the climate goals of the Paris Agreement still requires a significant increase in emission reductions.

Influence of anthropogenic forcing on the long-range correlation of air temperature in China

Ying Mei et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the performance of CMIP6 models in reproducing the long-range correlation (LRC) of daily air temperature records in China. The results show that multi-model ensemble mean can reduce model uncertainty and accurately reproduce the LRC characteristics of daily air temperature records. The influence of different forcings, especially anthropogenic forcing, is crucial for reproducing the LRC of different temperature variables.

Comparison of CMIP6 and CMIP5 models in simulating mean and extreme precipitation over East Africa

Brian Ayugi et al.

Summary: This study examines the improvements in simulating mean and extreme precipitation in East Africa using the CMIP6 models compared to CMIP5. The results show that the CMIP6 models have better performance in simulating seasonal rainfall, but there is still uncertainty and a need for further investigation into the sources of systematic biases.

Tadhg N. Moore et al.

Summary: Model ensembles have benefits compared to single-model applications, but are not frequently used in lake modeling. LakeEnsemblR is an R package that facilitates running ensembles of different vertical one-dimensional hydrodynamic lake models, standardizing input and workflow to simplify model benchmarking and improve collaborations between scientists.

The fate of the Caspian Sea under projected climate change and water extraction during the 21st century

Sifan A. Koriche et al.

Summary: This study investigated the water budget variation in the Caspian Sea drainage basin and its potential impact on the Caspian Sea level during the 21st century. Most future projections show drying over the century, with water extraction rates as important as climate in controlling future levels. Caution should be exercised when using individual models to inform policy as projected Caspian Sea levels vary greatly between models.

Impacts of Variations in Caspian Sea Surface Area on Catchment-Scale and Large-Scale Climate

Sifan A. Koriche et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of Caspian Sea area on climate using a fully coupled climate model, revealing significant changes in regional atmospheric water budget and temperatures. The results show that variations in Caspian Sea area have wide-ranging impacts on climate that should be incorporated into climate model simulations, including paleo and future scenarios.
