Biocompatible hydrogels based on chitosan, cellulose/starch, PVA and PEDOT:PSS with high flexibility and high mechanical strength

Jagan Mohan Dodda et al.

Summary: This study fabricated hydrogels using a one-pot synthesis method with the combination of chitosan, starch/cellulose, PVA, and PEDOT:PSS. The addition of starch provided high flexibility, while the addition of cellulose led to stiffer hydrogels. Cell adhesion and growth were higher on hydrogels with cellulose and PEDOT:PSS. The hydrogels showed no acutely toxic compounds, making them promising for tissue engineering or wound dressings applications.

Mina Ghafouri Azar et al.

Summary: A simple and cost-effective method to fabricate conductive triple network hydrogels was demonstrated by doping PEDOT:PSS into the matrix. The hydrogels were homogeneous in the swollen state and showed slight differences at the nanoscale when compared with/without PEDOT:PSS. The hydrogels exhibited conductivity in the range of 0.3-1.5 mS cm(-1), making them suitable for biosensors or devices related to skin/internal tissues.
