Viral T-cell epitopes - Identification, characterization and clinical application

Sarah M. Schroeder et al.

Summary: T-cell immunity is crucial for controlling viral infections, and it involves the CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. The viral T-cell epitopes, which are viral peptides presented by human leukocyte antigen (HLA) on virus-infected cells, are essential for T cell recognition of infected cells. Understanding viral T-cell epitopes not only offers a diagnostic tool to study protective T-cell responses in the human population, but also provides potential prophylactic and therapeutic options, such as vaccination and transfer of virus-specific T cells. These approaches have demonstrated effectiveness against various viral infections, especially in immunocompromised patients with insufficient antibody-based immune responses.

Identification of a novel linear B-cell epitope in porcine deltacoronavirus nucleocapsid protein

Wei He et al.

Summary: In this study, monoclonal antibodies against PDCoV N protein were prepared and one of the B-cell epitopes recognized by the antibodies was identified. The epitope was found to be highly conserved in PDCoV strains but had low homology with other porcine coronaviruses.

Predicted 3D model of the M protein of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus and analysis of its immunogenic potential

Alan Rodriguez-Enriquez et al.

Summary: This study presents a predicted 3D model of the PEDV M protein and identifies multiple linear and discontinuous B-cell epitopes, as well as weak and strong binding T-cell epitopes. Conservation of these epitopes is observed among different PEDV strains, suggesting that the M protein could be a potential candidate for developing new treatments or strategies against viral diseases.

Susceptibility to mice and potential evolutionary characteristics of porcine deltacoronavirus

Honglei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that BALB/c and Kunming mice are susceptible to PDCoV infection and revealed the lesions in the intestinal and lung tissues of infected mice. Two key amino acid mutations in the S protein of PDCoV-infected mice were identified and confirmed to play essential roles in PDCoV-adaptive evolution. Furthermore, the evolutionary characteristics of PDCoV among delta-CoVs were analyzed, showing close relation among delta-CoVs from multiple mammals.

Independent infections of porcine deltacoronavirus among Haitian children

John A. Lednicky et al.

Summary: Since 2003, coronaviruses have caused three major epidemics, including the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The emergence of coronaviruses in human species has been associated with zoonotic transmissions from animal reservoirs, emphasizing the propensity of such pathogens to spill over and adapt to new species.

Identification of potential SLA-I-restricted CTL epitopes within the M protein of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus

Chao Liang et al.

Summary: This study identified immunodominant CD8+ CTL epitopes for PRRSV-2 M protein and predicted their binding to SLA I molecules through a combination of ELISPOT assays and SLA genotyping. In vitro assays confirmed the formation of immune complexes between specific peptides and SLA class I molecules. These potential CTL epitopes represent a promising avenue for further research into T cell-based vaccine development for PRRSV.
