Universal Stretchable Conductive Cellulose/PEDOT:PSS Hybrid Films for Low Hysteresis Multifunctional Stretchable Electronics

Anky Fitrian Wibowo et al.

Summary: In this study, a conductive, stretchable, hydro-biodegradable, and highly robust cellulose/PEDOT:PSS hybrid film is fabricated. Through the synergetic interplay of a conductivity enhancer, nonionic fluorosurfactant, and surface modifier, the mechanical and electrical properties of the stretchable hybrid film are greatly improved. The stretchable cellulose/PEDOT:PSS hybrid film achieves a limited resistance change of only 1.21-fold after 100 stretch-release cycles (30% strain) with exceptionally low hysteresis, demonstrating its great potential as a stretchable electrode for stretchable electronics.

Conjugation of soy protein isolate with carboxymethyl cellulose through dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma

Hedieh Sharafodin et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma grafted carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and soy protein isolate (SPI) were evaluated in this study. The SPI and CMC mixture was treated with DBD plasma at 16, 18, and 20 kV for different durations. The results showed the formation of SPI-CMC conjugates after plasma treatment, with a glycation degree of 21% obtained at 18 kV for 15 minutes. The conjugates exhibited higher emulsifying activity and stability, as well as solubility, compared to the SPI-CMC mixture. Smaller droplet sizes were observed in emulsions produced from the conjugates, particularly from the 5-minute treatment at 18 kV, which also showed the highest stability after 14 days of storage at 4 degrees C. It was concluded that DBD plasma could effectively graft SPI and CMC within a short time period.

Flexible and alternately layered high electrochemical active electrode based on MXene, carboxymethylcellulose, and carbon nanotube for asymmetric micro-supercapacitors

Hanping Xu et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that Ti-based MXene shows great potential for electrochemical energy storage applications, but poor electrochemical properties due to self-stacking and weak interlayer interactions. A MXene/CMC/CNT hybrid membrane was prepared using a one-step vacuum filtration method. The CMC and CNT formed an interconnected mesh structure, mitigating self-aggregation of CNT and imparting electrical conductivity. The CMC and CNT tightly anchored to Ti3C2Tx nanosheets, forming a complete conductive pathway. The resulting Ti3C2Tx/CMC/CNT hybrid film exhibited a maximum tensile strength of 64.9 MPa. Additionally, an asymmetric micro-supercapacitor (MSC) using Ti3C2Tx/CMC/CNT as the cathode and RGO/CMC/PPy as the anode demonstrated a high energy density of 258.8 μWh/cm2 and an ultra-long cycle life of 93.2% capacitance retention after 15,000 cycles. The simple and scalable preparation process makes this MSC device highly promising for commercial electronics applications.
