Development of Antifreezing, Printable, Adhesive, Tough, Biocompatible, High-Water Content Hydrogel for Versatile Applications

Zhangkang Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, novel composite hydrogels were successfully synthesized via UV photo-cross-linking. The hydrogels combine various functionalities such as printability, antifreezing properties, adhesion, biocompatibility, and toughness. They can be rapidly printed with different shapes using visible light-based stereolithography printing and laser direct-writing. The hydrogels also show improved adhesive, antifreezing, mechanical properties, and water-binding capacity with increasing CNF contents. They have great potential for application in wound dressings and portable devices with specific requirements for shapes, adhesion, toughness, and tolerance in extreme environments.

Selective adsorption and fluorescence sensing of tetracycline by Zn-mediated chitosan non-woven fabric

Chensi Shen et al.

Summary: Studies have focused on newly developed Zn(II)-mediated chitosan nonwoven fabric (Zn-CSNW) adsorbent for the efficient and selective removal of tetracyclines (TCs). The adsorption of TC to Zn-CSNW reaches equilibrium in about 30 minutes with a maximum adsorption capacity of 195.9 mg/g. It shows high anti-interference performance for TC adsorption at low concentrations and good regeneration and effective reuse.

Selective and enhanced nickel adsorption from sulfate- and calcium-rich solutions using chitosan

Nina Ricci Nicomel et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of chitosan as a sustainable technique for nickel recovery, with a focus on the complexation of sulfate with nickel to enhance chitosan's adsorption capacity. The research found that while sulfate complexation improved nickel adsorption, it also slowed down the adsorption process.

Reversible Crosslinking of Polymer/Metal-Ion Complexes for a Microfluidic Switch

Hojun Lee et al.

Summary: The dynamic dissolution and gelation of a physically crosslinked chitosan hydrogel were studied, revealing that the dissolution rate is regulated by pH level, Cu2+ and NO2-, while the gelation rate is strongly influenced by the concentration of OH-. The use of Cu2+ was found to lead to rapid gelation and strategies were provided for process engineering to determine phase-transition rates. Additionally, a microfluidic switch was successfully operated based on a better understanding of the reversible crosslinking of the chitosan hydrogel, with factors regulating gelation or dissolution rates found to be useful in operating the fluidic switch.

Thermal-Switching and Repeatable Self-Protective Hydrogel Polyelectrolytes for Energy Storage Applications of Flexible Electronics

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a self-protective flexible supercapacitor with reversible thermal-switching behavior based on temperature-responsive hydrogel polyelectrolytes. By adjusting the temperature, capacity loss can be restored, and the self-protection function remains repeatable over multiple cycles. Additionally, the supercapacitor exhibits different electrochemical performances across a wide temperature range.
