Antimicrobial consumption in patients with COVID-19: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: Prescribing antimicrobials for COVID-19 patients has become common practice since the onset of the pandemic. A systematic literature search identified a high antimicrobial consumption rate in lower and middle-income countries compared to high-income countries. Implementing appropriate antimicrobial stewardship interventions is necessary to address the high consumption of antimicrobials in COVID-19 patients.
