An innovative study on high-performance milling of carbon fiber reinforced plastic by combining ultrasonic vibration assistance and optimized tool structures

Zhefei Sun et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a sharpening milling CFRP strategy by combining ultrasonic vibration and optimized tool structure. The cutting mechanisms of ultrasonic vibration and tool structure are analyzed, and the milling performance of the optimized tool is verified. Ultrasonic vibration-assisted milling (UVM) with the optimized tool is found to significantly reduce cutting force, cutting temperature, surface defects, and surface roughness, making it an efficient and low damages milling strategy for CFRP.

Hole surface strengthening mechanism and riveting fatigue life of CFRP/aluminum stacks in robotic rotary ultrasonic drilling

Song Dong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the hole surface strengthening mechanism of robotic rotary ultrasonic drilling (RRUD) for CFRP/aluminum stacks, establishes a theoretical residual stress model, and conducts fatigue life experiments of riveted joints. The experimental results indicate that ultrasonic vibration can increase the fatigue life of riveted joints.

Stability analysis of robotic longitudinal-torsional composite ultrasonic milling

Lianjun Sun et al.

Summary: Industrial robots face limitations in the aviation industry due to milling chatter caused by weak rigidity. The research demonstrates that longitudinal-torsional composite ultrasonic milling (CUM-LT) has a greater advantage in suppressing chatter compared to rotary ultrasonic milling (RUM). By applying CUM-LT technology to robotic milling systems, vibration can be avoided and system stability can be improved.
