Fabrication and characterization of bioactive composite: A pilot study

Manar E. Al-Samaray et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of calcium silicate to be added into a PEKK matrix as an implant material, in order to enhance its bioactivity and mechanical properties. Different weight percentages of micro-calcium silicate were incorporated into PEKK using ethanol as a binder. The results showed that the inclusion of 15 wt% m-CS into the PEKK matrix improved the bioactivity and mechanical properties of the composite.

Development and characterization of solvent-based 3D printed polylactic acid/45S5 bioactive glass composites for soft and hard tissue engineering

Garima Dixit et al.

Summary: Polylactic acid (PLA) is a commonly used polymer for biomedical applications due to its ability to undergo hydrolysis breakdown and bio-resorption. Composites made of PLA and bioactive substances, such as bioactive glass (BG), offer a combination of the mechanical properties and bioactivity of BG with the conformability and bio absorption of PLA.

Design of an auxetic cellular structure with different elastic properties in its three orthogonal directions

Rodrigo Valle et al.

Summary: In this research, an innovative asymmetric 3D auxetic structure based on a 2D configuration of cells drawn from the literature is proposed and analyzed using classical Timoshenko beam theory. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed cell can transmit different mechanical behavior to the macrostructure in its three orthogonal directions.
