The impact of hospital accreditation on the quality of healthcare: a systematic literature review

Summary: This review examines the impact of hospital accreditation on performance, finding positive effects on safety culture, process-related performance measures, efficiency, and patient length of stay, while employee satisfaction, patient satisfaction and experience, and 30-day hospital readmission rate were unrelated. Inconclusive evidence was found regarding the impact of accreditation on mortality rate and healthcare-associated infections.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness of the Australian ACSQHC method in monitoring HAI and found that ACD coding data had higher accuracy in detecting HAP. Medical staff often used non-specific terms for pneumonia, such as 'Lower Respiratory Tract Infection (LRTI)', which is recommended to be avoided. One third of cases lacked radiological confirmation.
