U-Pb ages of Miocene near-trench granitic rocks of the Southwest Japan arc: implications for magmatism related to hot subduction

Hironao Shinjoe et al.

Summary: A new dataset of zircon U-Pb ages reveals middle Miocene igneous activity in the SW Japan arc and its relationship with adjacent geological events, indicating that middle Miocene volcanic activity had an influence on the opening of the back-arc region.

Arc volcanic suite from a Miocene subduction system in SW Japan: A geochemical and zircon U-Pb-Lu-Hf study

Pin Gao et al.

Summary: The study revealed the mineral composition and age characteristics of volcanic rocks in the central segment of the Setouchi volcanic belt in southwest Japan, showing two groups of different zircon grains representing crustal and juvenile sources respectively. Analysis of geochemical and geochronological data showed that the volcanic rocks in this area have evolved through processes of crustal contamination and fractionation, differing from HMA.

Tectonic setting and formation of the Setouchi volcanic rocks in the western Seto Inland Sea, Japan

Daisuke Sato et al.

Summary: The study redefined the Jikamuro Formation in the Western Setouchi region based on new U-Pb ages and geochemical data, showing enrichment of incompatible elements compared to Setouchi HMAs. The paleo-stress conditions during Setouchi volcanism in the W-Setouchi were revealed through the analysis of orientations of felsic and mafic dikes within the volcanic rocks.
