Rapid quantification of goat milk adulteration with cow milk using Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics

Wangfang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential of Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics for the authentication and quantitation of liquid goat milk adulterated with cow milk was investigated. The results showed that Raman spectra could differentiate between cow and goat milk, enabling quantitative experiments. A partial least squares regression (PLSR) model was constructed and successfully used to quantify the level of adulteration in goat milk. The study demonstrated the potential of Raman spectroscopy as a rapid, low-cost, and non-destructive analytical tool for detecting adulteration in goat milk.

J. C. Castura et al.

Summary: Temporal check-all-that-apply (TCATA) data on Syrah wines were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) to explore uncertainty in the PCA scores. New methods were evaluated to optimize uncertainty measurement, including the partial bootstrap (PB) and the truncated total bootstrap (TTB) methods. Results showed that there was no significant difference between PB and TTB in understanding uncertainty and discriminability in PCA scores.

A diagrammatic approach of impedimetric phase angle-modulus sensing for identification and quantification of various polar and non-polar/ionic adulterants in milk

Chirantan Das et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel diagrammatic approach for the detection and quantification of polar and non-polar/ionic adulterants in milk using electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). By incorporating common milk adulterants in controlled amounts in pure milk samples and confirming their presence with FT-MIR spectroscopy, a biosensor device is fabricated for EIS measurements. The results show opposite trends in the variation of electrical impedance, capacitance, and conductance for polar compared to non-polar/ionic adulterants, allowing for the development of a diagrammatic approach for rapid and cost-effective detection and quantification of milk-adulterants.
