Diego de Araujo Santana et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the production of gas-atomized powders and consolidation through hot extrusion of the [(Fe0.6Co0.4)0.75B0.2Si0.05]96Nb4 alloy. The thermal history of the powders was simulated, and the crystalline phases were analyzed. The extrusion process led to the deformation and consolidation of the powders, while the presence of crystalline particles resulted in stress concentration and potential crack formation. These findings contribute to the understanding of processing metallic glass matrix composites.

The crystallization process in a new multicomponent Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy: A kinetic study approach

Parisa Rezaei-Shahreza et al.

Summary: In this study, a new alloy composition based on the Fe-B-Si system with high glass-forming ability was developed and its non-isothermal crystallization kinetics was investigated. The glass-forming ability of the Fe74B20Nb2Si2Hf2 alloy was determined through thermodynamic calculations, and the critical cooling rate and critical thickness parameters were obtained. Microstructural evolutions following the annealing process were evaluated, revealing the formation of Fe23B6, alpha-Fe, and Fe2B crystalline phases. Local activation energy values were calculated using isoconversional methods, and invariant kinetic parameters and the kinetic model were obtained through IKP and fitting model. The research findings demonstrated that the different stages of crystallization were controlled by different mechanisms.

Temperature and Strain Rate Dependence on the Tensile Mechanical Properties, Constitutive Equations, and Fracture Mechanisms of MarBN Steel

Yunqing Jiang et al.

Summary: The effect of strain rate and temperature on the thermomechanical behavior and microstructure of MarBN steel was studied. Higher strain rates were better predicted by the Holloman and Ludwigson equations, while lower strain rates were better predicted by the coupling of the Voce and Ludwigson equations. However, the deformation microstructures had the same evolution behavior under different strain rates and temperatures. The strengthening sources of MarBN steel included grain boundary strengthening, dislocation interactions, and multiplication. The phenomenological models of JC (RT and 430 degrees C) and KHL (630 degrees C) showed the best prediction accuracy under both strain rates.

Description of non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of Fe48Co32P14B6 metallic glass using the isothermal analysis data

S. V. Vasiliev et al.

Summary: The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of Fe48Co32P14B6 glass were experimentally studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) with heating rates ranging from 5 to 40 K/min. A kinetic model combining the Kolmogorov's model and the Kashchiev's transient nucleation approach was derived to describe the interface-controlled mode of crystallization. The experimental DSC scans were accurately approximated using thermodynamic and kinetic parameters derived from analysis of the isothermal crystallization, and the effect of non-stationarity on the thermal stability of metallic glasses was discussed.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effects of melt temperature on Fe-Si-B-C amorphous ribbons, finding that higher melt temperature enhances thermal stability and degree of amorphization, while promoting the precipitation of different phases at high temperatures. The magnetic structure analysis revealed a correlation between domain distribution and coercivity/effective permeability, providing important insights for the production of Fe-based amorphous ribbons.

Effect of Substituting Hf for Zr on Fe-Co-M-Nb-B (M = Zr, Hf) Amorphous Alloys with High Saturation Magnetization

Hyunsol Son et al.

Summary: This study investigated the soft magnetic amorphous ribbons of (FexCo1-x)(85)M9Nb1B5 (M = Zr or Hf, x = 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, and 0.9). Replacing Zr with Hf increased the saturation magnetization and reduced the coercivity, improving the soft magnetic performance of the alloys. Optimal Fe/Co ratio was determined to achieve maximum saturation magnetization while keeping the coercivity low. The substitution of Hf for Zr minimally affected the thermal stability of the soft magnetic amorphous alloys.

Compositional dependence of the fragility in metallic glass forming liquids

Sebastian A. Kube et al.

Summary: The authors propose a new method to measure the fragility of metallic glass forming liquids and find significant variations in fragility across Mg-Cu-Y alloys. Contrary to conventional understanding, low fragility does not necessarily correlate with high glass-forming ability. The introduction of crystallization complexity provides an additional contribution to modeling glass forming ability.

Corrosion behavior of TiZrHfBeCu(Ni) high-entropy bulk metallic glasses in 3.5 wt. % NaCl

Pan Gong et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of TiZrHfBeCu(Ni) high-entropy bulk metallic glasses (HE-BMGs) has been investigated. The HE-BMGs exhibited high corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution due to the accumulation of ZrO2 and TiO2 in the passive film. The addition of Ni increased the contents of ZrO2, TiO2, and HfO2, while decreasing the content of BeO, thereby improving the corrosion behavior of the HE-BMGs. Compared to Zr41.2Ti13.8Ni10Cu12.5Be22.5 BMG, the high-entropy effect of the HE-BMGs can significantly reduce atomic mobility, inhibit outward migration of Cu, decrease the kinetics of the dissolution reaction, and inhibit inward erosion by Cl-, leading to improved corrosion performance.
