Synthesis, structure, and biological properties of Cu(II) complexes based on diimine ligands

Shi-Li Tang et al.

Summary: Three copper(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized, and their interactions with HS-DNA/BSA were investigated. The complexes were found to interact with HS-DNA via an intercalative mode and quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA through a static mechanism. The fluorescence data indicated that the complexes exhibited good binding affinity to BSA, with only one available binding site. The complexes displayed cytotoxicity against tumor cells and induced apoptosis in MCF-7 and HeLa cells.

Coordination Compounds of Cu, Zn, and Ni with Dicarboxylic Acids and N Donor Ligands, and Their Biological Activity: A Review

Ivana Loubalova et al.

Summary: This review focuses on complexes of four dicarboxylic acids, namely, 2,2'-thiodioacetic, 3,3'-thiodipropionic, 3,3'-dithiodipropionic, and fumaric acid. Many of the complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray analyses. Structural properties and potential applications are also discussed.

Antioxidant and Anticancer Potential of the New Cu(II) Complexes Bearing Imine-Phenolate Ligands with Pendant Amine N-Donor Groups

Adriana Castro Pinheiro et al.

Summary: Synthesis and characterization of Cu(II) complexes with NNO-donor Schiff base ligands (2a, b). X-ray analysis revealed a mononuclear and a dinuclear complex in the solid state for 2a. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were used to optimize the electronic structures of the complexes. 2a showed better antioxidant activity, while all compounds exhibited high cytotoxicity but no selectivity for tumor cell lines.
