Human Colonization and Infection by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius: An Emerging and Underestimated Zoonotic Pathogen

Ikechukwu Benjamin Moses et al.

Summary: S. pseudintermedius is a skin and mucous membrane resident and normal microbiota of dogs, but it can also cause severe diseases in humans, especially those with compromised immune systems. The emergence of methicillin-resistant S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) has led to serious public health consequences. The zoonotic transmission of MRSP from dogs to humans has been increasing due to the growing frequency of dog ownership and close contact between dogs and humans.

Global burden of bacterial antimicrobial resistance in 2019: a systematic analysis

Christopher J. L. Murray et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to global human health, and this study provides the most comprehensive estimates of AMR burden to date. By estimating deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) associated with bacterial AMR in 204 countries and territories in 2019, the study highlights the impact of resistance and the leading pathogen-drug combinations contributing to it.

Sterically hindered mononuclear and binuclear Cu(I) complexes: Synthesis, characterization, docking analysis and antimicrobial evaluation

Syed Ishtiaq Khan et al.

Summary: Mononuclear and dinuclear Copper(I) halide complexes containing different phosphine ligands were synthesized by direct reactions. The synthesized complexes were characterized by various techniques and showed different geometries. The complexes were also evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activity, and compound I exhibited enhanced binding affinity for both targets.

Revisiting metallodrugs for the treatment of skin cancers

Carlos M. Manzano et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of recent studies on metal complexes in the treatment of skin cancers, including in vitro, in vivo, and clinical data. The structure-activity relationships of lead coordination complexes for skin cancer chemotherapy are discussed based on a careful analysis of the literature and databases. The article also highlights recent advances in understanding skin composition, photodynamic therapies, immunological responses, and molecular mechanisms of skin cancers.

Synthesis, HSA-Binding and Anticancer Properties of [Cu2(μ-dppm)2(N∧N)2]2+

Bandar A. Babgi et al.

Summary: A series of dinuclear copper(I) complexes were synthesized and characterized. The complexes showed good binding affinities toward human serum albumin (HSA), with the nature of the substituted-diimine influencing the binding affinity. The complexes induced structural changes in HSA and complex 3 showed the highest binding score due to pi-interactions. The complexes also exhibited anticancer properties, with complex 3 showing better IC50 values against cancer cell lines compared to cisplatin and higher selectivity towards cancer cells over normal cells.

The first copper(I) complex of anthrahydrazone with potential ROS scavenging activity showed significant in vitro anticancer activity by inducing apoptosis and autophagy

Rui-Xue Liu et al.

Summary: A new quinolylanthrahydrazone ligand, 9-AQH, was synthesized and used to prepare four metal complexes, among which the copper(I) complex showed significant anticancer activity and catalytic ability to generate free radicals. The potential redox property between Cu(I)/Cu(II) and the induction of cell apoptosis through mitochondrial pathway were considered as key factors in the observed anticancer activity. Further investigation is needed to explore the intrinsic correlation between autophagy and the anticancer mechanism of the copper(I) complex.

Synthesis, Structural Studies, and Anticancer Properties of [CuBr(PPh3)2(4,6-Dimethyl-2-Thiopyrimidine-κS]

Bandar A. Babgi et al.

Summary: A Cu(I) complex, Cu-L, was synthesized and found to bind to HSA differently than its ligand, displaying potential anticancer activities with low toxicity towards non-cancer cells. This study highlights the potential therapeutic application of copper(I)-phosphine complexes containing thione ligands.
