Synthetic strategies, structures and properties of di and polynuclear cobalt complexes with H2salen type Schiff bases and their reduced analogues

Tamashi Ghosh Dastidar et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview on the synthetic strategies, structures, magnetic properties, and biological activities of polynuclear cobalt complexes with H2salen type Schiff bases and their reduced analogues. The complexes are classified into Cobalt(II), cobalt(III), and mixed valence cobalt(III)/cobalt(II) complexes, each synthesized using different methods. The less explored areas of potential applications of these complexes are also discussed.

Recent advances on the tetrel bonding interaction in the solid state structure of lead complexes with hydrazine based bis-pyridine Schiff base ligands

Abhisek Banerjee et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the tetrel bonding interactions in the solid state structure of various lead(II) complexes with hydrazine based bis-pyridine Schiff base ligands, highlighting the synthetic and structural aspects. The hemidirectional nature of lead(II) center and formation of sigma holes are the fundamental reasons for such tetrel bonding interactions.

Synthesis, structure and properties of homo- and hetero-trinuclear complexes of salicylaldehyde-based di-Schiff bases

Mridul Karmakar et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the synthetic strategies, structures, and important applications of trinuclear transition (and non-transition) metal complexes with H2salen type Schiff bases. The complexes are divided into homo-nuclear and hetero-nuclear sub-classes, with a discussion on mixed valence complexes reported with cobalt. The review also highlights the magnetic and other important properties of these complexes, as well as less explored areas of potential applications.

Noncovalent Interactions Involving Group 6 in Biological Systems: The Case of Molybdopterin and Tungstopterin Cofactors

Antonio Bauza et al.

Summary: In this study, we propose the term Wolfium bond (WfB) to describe the net attractive force between group 6 elements and electron donor atoms. By analyzing the X-ray crystal structures of proteins and conducting ab initio calculations, we provide evidence for the existence of this interaction and explore its potential biological role and physical nature.

Insight into non-covalent interactions in a [Cu(N3)4]2- bridged hetero-pentanuclear copper(II)/sodium complex with special emphasis on the strong CH•••π[Cu(N3)4] interactions

Prasanta Kumar Bhaumik et al.

Summary: The hooked cross-shaped anion participates in strong CH center dot center dot center dot[Cu(N-3)(4)](2-) interactions in the pentanuclear hetero-metallic copper(II)-sodium complex. DFT calculations, MEP analysis, and NCI plot index analysis were used to analyze and characterize these interactions. Cation-pi interactions between the pentacoordinated Na-atom and the aromatic ring of the Schiff base ligand were described and compared with existing X-ray structures.

Photochromism of dye containing Schiff base-metal complex: A revisit through spectro-kinetic, thermodynamic and theoretical analyses for the design of a molecular logic gate

Nandagopal Bar et al.

Summary: A novel photochromic material based on a dye containing Schiff base-metal complex has been developed, showing unique photo-physical properties and UV-induced "ON-OFF" behavior. The material can potentially serve as a UV light controlled molecular logic gate, with moderate quantum yield, excellent fatigue resistance, and solvent polarity dependent photochromism. The mechanism of the photochromism is understood through spectro-kinetic, thermodynamic, and theoretical analyses, revealing the importance of zinc metal guided excited-state intramolecular proton transfer in the process.

Anion Anion Coinage Bonds: The Case of Tetrachloridoaurate

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: Interactions in crystalline tetrachloridoaurates of acetylcholine and dimethylpropiothetine are characterized by short contacts of Au Cl and Au O. The attractive nature of the Au Cl/O interactions complements the known aurophilic bonds involved in gold-centered interactions. Computational studies show that gold atoms in negatively charged species can function as electron density acceptors.

Molecular Electrostatic Potential and Noncovalent Interactions in Derivatives of Group 8 Elements

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: This study provides experimental and theoretical evidence of sigma-hole interactions in adducts between nitrogen or oxygen nucleophiles and tetroxides of osmium or other group 8 elements. The cocrystals between pyridine or pyridine N-oxide derivatives and osmium tetroxide were characterized and rationalized as sigma-hole interactions using various computational tools. The term "osme bond" is proposed to name the noncovalent interactions where group 8 elements serve as electrophiles.

Anion...Anion Interactions Involving σ-Holes of Perrhenate, Pertechnetate and Permanganate Anions

Andrea Daolio et al.

Summary: Experimental and theoretical evidence suggests that interactions between electron rich atoms and tetroxide anions of group 7 elements involve a new type of attractive sigma-hole interactions, leading to the formation of supramolecular anionic dimers or polymers. These interactions are categorized as matere bonds (MaB) and distinguished from classical metal-ligand coordination bonds.

Electrochemical Exploration of Active Cu-Based Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization Catalysis through Ligand Modification

Jamie N. Melville et al.

Summary: The competition between CuI and CuII complexes of polyamine ligands for the same organic free radical is shown to be the intersection between Cu-catalyzed ATRP and OMRP. The stability of the Cu complexes depends on their oxidation state, and subtle changes to the ligand system may affect this process.

Differentiating intramolecular spodium bonds from coordination bonds in two polynuclear zinc(ii) Schiff base complexes

Tanmoy Basak et al.

Summary: Two new zinc(ii) complexes with different chemical structures have been synthesized, where the variation in the aromatic ring of the Schiff base ligand influences the final solid state structure, and the methoxy and ethoxy groups exhibit different interactions with Zn(ii) through oxygen-zinc bonds. The analysis was conducted using density functional theory (DFT) calculations and a combination of quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and noncovalent interaction (NCI) plot index computational tools.
