The objective of this study was to examine the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles synthesized using the Annona muricata (Am) plant extract. The results showed that the ZnO-Am nanoparticles demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against various strains of bacteria, and also exhibited strong antioxidant properties. These findings may lead to the development of new antibacterial and antioxidant products.
The objective of this study is to examine the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles synthesize utilizing the Annona muricata (Am) plant extract. The ZnO-Am nanoparticles (NPs) were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), Fourier-transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and UV-Visible spectroscopy techniques. The SPR (Surface plasmonic resonance) was measured using a UV-visible spectrophotometer at 379 nm. The results of the FTIR spectroscopy show that the presence of phytochemicals in the A. muricata leaf extract is responsible for the formation of ZnO-Am, which have a well-defined and stretching vibration of Zn-O at 505 cm-1. FESEM shows that ZnO-Am have cluster-like features. XRD results revealed the crystalline plane of ZnO-Am and the size varied from 72 +/- 2 nm. Antibacterial properties of ZnO-Am against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus bacteria was evaluated. The antioxidant properties of ZnO-Am were evaluated using DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. The optimum inhibitory level of ZnO-Am has been determined to be 240 mu g/mL for all bacterial strains. The ZnO-Am revealed excellent antioxidant properties. The findings of this study may open up new avenues for developing antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
